| Wow! That was something! I can't wait for the second part! (When was the
last time a two-part episode had separate titles for the first and the second
part?)
Spoilers...
I was quite confused when I saw Bashir escorted out in the detention camp. I
thought perhaps he followed Garak illicitly. Of course, the actual explanation
was even more insidious and more clever. And now we have the answer to the
enigmatic clue floating around the rumor mills of "the closest living relative
to a DS9 character." Enabran Tain is Garak's father? It makes sense, clears
up a few things. Lots of loose ends being tied up here, I like that a great
deal.
Excellent episode.

I really liked that too. Garak seemed out of character regarding Tain
to me. That last scene tied up everything wonderfully, it was a thing
of beauty. Well done, this was a great DS9 episode. I'm looking forward
to part 2. This has been a great ST week on both VOY and DS9 fronts...

| Yes, yes. Most good. I, too, thought the Tain thing was well thought
out, and it explains a lot of the past too. I thought it was very well
done that Tain did not completely change character at the end and
welcome Garak with open arms. His last words were open to
interpretation: "I was very proud of you then..." Was he thinking of
his pride and just not able to say more, or did he mean "I *used to* be
proud of you..." Whew...
BTW, was that Klingon in detention the one whose changling double Odo
explosed on the Klingon home world?
Does anyone know who the person was that the show was in memory of?

Yes, it looks like he will be more of a regular on the show. However,
I thought the business of Worf's bannishment was pretty well swept under
the rug.

| It was not specifically mentioned, but I thought General <thingie> may
have alluded to it with his choice of words in describing how he
thought that Worf had shown plenty of honor.

According to Robert Hewitt Wolfe, one of the writers (info from Psi Phi web
site):
"Derek Garth was a member of the set crew who died in a car crash on his way to
work early one Monday morning while we were shooting "In Purgatory's Shadow."
He and his family lived in Fresno and he would regularly drive the 300+ miles
to LA every Sunday night, then turn around and drive home every Friday after we
wrapped. He was one of the nicest guys I ever met. We miss him."

My brain was missing when I wrote that; the "closest living relative" thing was
about "Dr. Bashir, I Presume," and was about a Voyager crew member, not a DS9
character.
