Saw this one last night. Turned out to be a pretty decent episode in
spite of some rough spots. I think the bit with Kira in labor and
the musical instruments was supposed to be funny, but just seemed
very awkward. That was one _huge_ newborn.

I liked the parts about Odo and the infant changling. Particularly
as a parent myself, and wathing the interaction of Odo and Dr Mora.
The ending with Kira and Odo both having "lost" a "child" was pretty
    powerful.

Glad to see Odo get his shape-shifting abilities back.

I thought this was very good...saw a new side to Odo.

It was a little sad at the end that they both felt they "lost"
    their children..

Yes, it was so sad that I had gasoline poured all over myself and I was
about to light it when I realized I was bored out of my skull.

How about something new? A new life form? A new something? New
    characters maybe?

This show is getting too predictable for me.

comments after spoilers - but liked the episode. Better than some of
    the recent ones.

    spoilers ahead

Kira - giving birth - I liked that they did something different then
the usual (and very natural) scream/pain/etc. Kinda makes you wish
that technique could be used for real! I thought it was pretty funny
the "one-upmanship" between Miles and Shakar. I liked the line about
about "next time you decide to have a baby, pick someone else's
girlfriend " or something to that effect.

    Odo/Dr.Mora - what a good depiction of parent/sibling relationships.
The old line about parents becoming smarter as you grow older comes to
mind. It also crossed my mind that the baby changling might have been a
test by the founders for odo. Maybe some other episode will mention
    more on that.

The last scene, it is sad for both Kira and Odo. Be interesting to see
if it gets mentioned any more. or if Kira still lives with the obriens
for a time. And what about the attraction between kira and Miles - any
    more going happen with that?

I also liked that when odo changed, his clothes are left on the floor.
Nice touch. I was wondering if he'd ever get his abilities back. All
the special effects to be used!

generally liked the episode. Nice change from some of the action ones.

I'm getting forgetful in my old age; I misprogrammed the VCR and didn't catch
this one. I'd be grateful for the loan of a tape from some kindly ZKO
resident.

1066.7Well done episode, nice change of paceTNPUBS::NAZZAROUMass is back - watch out NCAA!Mon Feb 10 1997 16:2617
Caught this one late last night on Ch. 56 - starts at 11:30, an eight
day delay from the original airing.

I can't believe someone actually thought this was a predictable
episode! There were a number of things that I felt were not depicted
on DS9 (or on many other shows for that matter), after the FF

I agree with the previous noters who were moved by the way both Kira
and Odo felt they "lost" a child. While Kira's emotions were to be
expected, I felt Odo's were not, and Rene Auberjoinois did a masterful
acting job letting those emotions flow, as he did throughout the
episode. The Bajoran birth ceremony was interesting and different, and
how Odo regained his abilities as a changeling surprised me. I guess
I'm just not as perceptive as some other viewers.

I caught this one on the rebroadcast. I really liked it as well.

It's probably late enough to avoid the spoilers, but just in case:

Odo was marvelous! I loved his fascination with the infant changeling, his
attempts to avoid the mistakes his "parent" made, his making up with Dr. Mora,
his celebration with Quark. I have a new appreciation for Dr. Mora, too.

The story line reminded me somewhat of the TNG story about Data's daughter.

Shakaar was out of line. I didn't like him coming into to the picture, late,
and trying to run everything. It was believable, even understandable, but he
really annoyed me. Miles, on the other hand, was standing up for himself
appropriately. I didn't like that Kira and Keiko seemed to see the two of them
as equal men bickering; Miles is the father, after all.

1066.9good one amoung the hits and missesAPLVEW::DEBRIAEsearching for the language that is _also_ yoursTue Feb 11 1997 10:2520
I liked this one too. Yes it was very predictable but it was a nice story to
see be told and to see unfold before you. The fact that it was clear how
events would unfold didn't interfere with the telling of this episode for me.
And perhaps the predictability didn't bother me here since for me it comes
with the territory with DS9 since the second season and now I just expect it
with each episode. Or perhaps predictability only really bothers me on
  action or mystery episodes.

And curiously enough, in contrast, I _liked_ the Miles scenes with his
miscued pot clangings. Normally I'm not fond of Miles' scenes but this one
had levity and humour - I found myself chuckling. Perhaps from a connection
of "that'd probably be me too." :-)

The common thread of DS9 episodes that really work for me so far has been
when they include a little humour and don't take themselves too
(unjustifiable) seriously. The "Bashir as Bond" episode still ranks amoung
  their best...
