We're planning a trip in September from Pennsylvania to Colorado and back
with our 2 horses. Am interested in finding safe places to unload, provide
grazing-exercise (have solar/electric fense) stalls for the night and parking
for a pickup and 4 horse trailer along the route.
Also looking for like-new horse packing
equipment (pack-saddles, breeching/panniers type-stuff). Will be camping in
a wilderness area (this time with the horses). If you've been there/done
that,
what worked and what would you never-ever do again?

My only concern with bringing horses from Pennsylvania to Colorado
wilderness areas is the problem with people and horses both
acclimating to the elevation (read: possible altitude sickness
    for you or your animals).

When I moved from Iowa to Colorado (with fit horses) it took 2 weeks
or so for them to have enough 'wind' to exercise their muscles
    sufficiently.

If you are looking to go packing in the wilderness, there are a bunch
of outfitters out here that already have the horses and equipment
    ready to go.

| | Ask at your local tack shop for the latest "Hawkin's Guide to Horse
Trailering On the Road". It's a guide to legal and safe trailering
listed by state, and includes towing/repair services, vets, and barns
that are willing to acommodate overnite guests, etc. The legal
requirements vary pretty widely from state to state, so it's something
you want to be sure you've got covered throughout your entire trip.
