This past weekend about a dozen of us cowboy wanta be's got the chance to do a real cattle drive. This was not for fun but it was anyway. We had to move a friends 175 head about 6miles across several pastures to their fall feeding grounds. across several "washes" , a few creeks, and around other grazing cattle. All went well for me, but my friend had a horse that was completely green to cows. His horse waited till they were on the bank of a creek and did a front shoulder roll. After cleaning the mud off all were a little shaken but not broken. It was great seeing wide open spaces with no power lines, cars or houses. There was some hugh antelope, that did not seem to mind us at all. Even a big gray crane did a fly by of us. Happy trails, Carl

2050.1 | What kind of Antelope? | CSCMA::SMITH | Tue Aug 27 1996 09:55 | 7
Antelope? Are these imported antelope or domestic antelope (deer)? Just teasing, since csc32:: is in Colorado, this really caught me by surprise. ;-) Sharon

To be technical about it, they aren't antelope - at least not in the same family as African antelope. They are pronghorns, but usually called antelope or 'lopers. I never get tired of seeing them, and I see them almost every day on my way to the barn. Colorado also has 2 different kinds of deer - mule deer (muleys) and whitetail (same as back east). Ok, since you started a fun on horses on note, this gives me an excuse! :-) Last weekend I spent both days at the Colorado State Fair helping (where I could -- I'm a rank amatuer) the Mountain View Belgian stable show their hitches and carts! Got to ride on a two and four horse hitch, and helped setting up just about everything from their single horse carts to their six-horse hitch! Neat horses to work around; gonna have to get a bit more agressive about saving for a couple of my own. Roak
