1979.0. "IDEAS: for meetings/speakers etc.." by PCBUOA::LPIERCE (Do the watermelon crawl) Fri Jun 16 1995 12:43

I am the President of a horse club in Massachusetts. We used to have
meetings every month for years. We had alot of good speakers as
    well live demos.

Over the past year our attendance at the meetings have been very
low. So I took a break from the meetings and I focused on more
    events/shows/clinics etc..

But, I would very much like to have another meeting soon and see
how it goes. But, my brain is all dried up when it came to
"who should I get" and "who could I get" - I was at a loss.

I was hoping some folks in here would have some good ideas of some
local talent in any field that has to do w/horses. Our club is very
divers (western, english, driving, trail, endurance, dressage,
eventing, hunter jumper) we cover it all.

My preferance would to get in an endurance speaker in - but I
    dont know any.

    but, I'll take any ideas!

    Louisa,

For an endurance riding speaker, you could try contacting Judy Lorimer
    - she's the president (or some such thing) of the ECTRA, and I'd
imagine she could get you pointed in the right direction.

An endurance speaker is a very good idea, considering the time of year
with the hottest part of summer still to come. Endurance folks being
so concious of conditioning and working horses in high temps/humidity,
it would apply and probably be of interest to all the members of your
    club, whatever discipline they follow.

Well, I can't help with local talent recommendations but having a local vet
make a presentation on worms/worming, colic, red alert injuries or
something like that might be a good attendance draw.

Also, possibility someone to talk about local horse ordinances or lawyer to
explain local liability laws might also be very interesting.
