| And I would like to second Liz's thank you to the moderators -- I never
would have met Liz if it weren't for this notes file.
I had an absolutely fantastic time visiting with Liz. As she said in
her note, we managed to cram a lot of horse-related experiences into
two days. I rode four different horses (including Liz's sweet mare,
Holly), toured the local tack shops, and had a wonderful time visiting
with Liz and her friends. I was surprised to learn that draft crosses
are commonly used as school horses at English riding academies, as I've
generally encountered Appaloosas at my local lesson barns in central
Massachusetts. I must say that I was *very* impressed with the placid
temperament of the huge draft gelding named Merit that I took on a hack
with Liz and her friend Miriam. I wish that drafts and draft crosses
were more popular over here -- their calm, willing dispositions make
them bomb proof on the trail -- or anywhere for that matter.
One of the highlights of my time with Liz was our semi-private lesson
at Wellington Academy in Hampshire. This is truly a swish
establishment that certifies instructors in all riding disciplines as
well as providing lessons to anyone who wants to ride there. You can
either ride one of Wellington's schoolies or trailer your horse over
(if you live locally). I felt that Wellington's level of
professionalism and excellent quality instruction is far superior to
the lessons that I've taken in Massachusetts. I'd love to go back
again soon!
Anyway, I just want to close by thanking Liz for treating me to a
highly memorable couple of days spent absorbed in all sorts of
equestrian-related pursuits. It was truly the vacation of a lifetime!
Cheers and thanks,
Eileen
