Hi,
Does anybody know the standard number of fences there are for a
x-country in a three day event (if there is a set number).
I'm curious as a riding centre near me holds x-countries throughout the
year with the number of fences increasing every time.
Just a bit of trivia for me!

I have some information for you but it is for Horse Trials, not 3 Day
Events. Hopefully this will still help you...
XC
Jumping
Level Efforts
----- -------
Novice 12-20
Training 16-20
Preliminary 18-28
Intermediate 22-32
Advanced 25-40
This information was printed in the USCTA News from February 1994. If
you would like more specifics such as distances, speeds, drops, etc
look in note 1898 for USCTA info.

From the 3-day events that I've been to here in the US, the number of XC (phase D) jumping efforts is about the same as for the horse trials. (but then there are the 8 phase B (steeplechase) efforts for all). Here in the US, 3-days are not available below the preliminary level, which is the rough equivalent of the European Novice level. kathy | |||||
