1817.0. "UK price to rent land?" by FORTY2::GOODWIN () Tue Oct 19 1993 04:52

Hello,

Can anyone give me a rough idea of how much it would cost to rent
a small paddock (nearly an acre) with a stable? I ask because I'm
thinking of investing some money (about 1600 pounds) to turn a bit
of semi derelict land into just that and I would like to know how
long it would take to get my money back (too long I expect).

I'm near Newbury in Berkshire, UK.

Thanks in advance,

Mike.

Yes, you're right, it would take you a little while to recoup the
money invested into such a project. Do you mind me asking why you are
doing this? Do you have an interest in horses or just a small business
    adventure?

Anyway, to answer your question. I live in the Tilehurst/Sulham area
and rent land for my horse so I'll go on how much it costs for
    me/people I know.

To rent a large field with water, a stable but no electrcity is
approximately 40 - 70 per month, obviously this can vary depending on
the quality and location of the land. As you say it is only 1 acre, it
will only be possible to graze 1 small horse/pony which is not usually
satisfactory to horse owners as horses are sociable animals and need
    company (with exception).

If you are looking to do this sort of thing I would suggest that you
perhaps purchase a couple of acres and go the whole hog with
lighting/water etc. It would be more beneficial in the long run (and
    create a "yard" environment).

The price I have quoted is very approximate and can vary from area to
area. As I only live "up the road" I would be very interested if you
planned to do it over my way - keep us informed!!!
