| Try a fly screen, the fly may be causing this condition.

1794.2 | fly mask | AKOCOA::LPIERCE | prop me up against the juke | Wed Aug 25 1993 10:05 | 7 |

If you don't do it allready, I'd keep a fly mask on the him to help
keep the flies and other buggies out of his eye. When I've forgotten
to put our Flymasks on out horses come back in the barn w/ swelled up
oozing eyes.

1794.3 | Blocked tear duct? | MR4SRV::CHMIBU::MShamel | | Wed Aug 25 1993 10:20 | 11 |
| Another area to investigate is - blocked tear duct.
I had a QH Gelding that constantly got blocked tear ducts from the pollen and
other things in the air. His eye would tear excessively (like a streak down
his face) and then I would get 'gunk' in the corner of the eye as things
built up.
Fix was quite simple - for a vet! Required putting a tube up the duct (from
the nostril) and flushing it out.

1794.4 | Thanks | COMET::SANDVIK | | Wed Aug 25 1993 11:56 | 6 |
| Thanks for all the input. I will try the fly mask and if it does not
clear up, I'll get the vet back out. I hate seeing the old guy with
all the gunk in his eyes.
Thanks!

If you suspect a blocked or clogged tear duct, try putting a
hot (not burning!) wet cloth over the eye for 15 mins at a time,
a few times day....(advice from my vet that saved me a vet call)

1794.6 | handsome as ever | COMET::SANDVIK | | Thu Sep 02 1993 01:08 | 6 |
| I am not sure if it was a blocked tear duct or what it was. I used
"Clear eyes" and flushed his eyes atleast once a day and also put the
hot cloth over his eyes. Within 2 days his eyes are wide open and
bright as ever. He is handsome as usual.
Thanks for the advice.
