1783.0. "question on color" by LUNER::DEPLANTE () Mon Aug 09 1993 11:54
2 weeks ago we had 2 sicilian burros drop 2 (one each) little
ones in our laps...one is a dark sable color and the other is
the first one i've seen with a black muzzel, pewter body, white
in the ears and 2 white dots above the hoof on the fetlock.
Can anyone tell me if they've ever seen this color in an
equine and what color they turned out to be?
In any event, this is quite rare among the sicilian burros, as
is the sable...we've had 2 sables, this pewter one and a regular
flavor out of the last 2 crops...we suspect is MAX (daddy) as
these colors are recessive - however that works! anyone know?
Does mom and dad have to have the same gene to throw a different
color?
AND, they are the sweetest, indescribably cutest little
creatures you could imagine!
thanks for any suggestions, lora

I dont have an answer to your questiong (sorry) but I ran across
a weird color last weekend at a show. This horse looked like a
dunn/chestnut color underneith.. then .. it looked like some one
poard water down his neck and back becasue he was a black/dark
bay on top (and it wasn't an even color that's why I use the
water example... his black/dark bay was just kinda splattered on
his body).. then .. to top it off, he had a dunnish face and a
"BLACK BLAZE" (I have never seen a black blaze)
he was neet!

1783.2 | Grulla? | DECWET::JDADDAMIO | Seattle Rain Festival: 1/1-12/31 | Thu Aug 12 1993 14:21 | 4 |
| Could that weird color have been grulla? They have black head markings
and a dark color on one side of the hair with lighter on the other
side. Supposedly, some interaction between color genes restricts the black
pigment to one side of the hair shaft.
