1749.0. "What other pets do you have?" by MTWASH::DOUGLAS () Fri May 28 1993 10:33

    I noticed some of you equitaion people in the canine file also.
    Which made me wonder..... what other animals do you have? I'm
    curious to see how addicted the rest of you are with animals.
    I know I sure am!

    I'll start. For ease of reading, let's keep it simple, i.e.
    no names, breeds, etc...

    I have:

    3 horses
    1 pony
    4 ducks
    2 dogs
    2 cats

    What's the diff between a parakeet and a budgie? I thought they were 2
    names for the same thing?

    Well, just because I have a couple, I don't claim to be an expert.
    BUT, budgie is short for budgerigar and that's what you see in
    Woolworth's. English budgies are a little larger than the American
    ones, their little foreheads bulge out a bit (more like my Arabians,
    and not like they're hydrocephalic). They are also supposed to be
    sweeter.

    The canary wing parakeet is a larger bird (about 50% larger). So,
    budgies are parakeets, but parakeets aren't necessarily budgies.

    What they are is just one more thing to clean up after. Also very
    very cute.

1749.15Beware of Big Budgies.A1VAX::GUNNI couldn't possibly commentTue Jun 01 1993 18:164
    Budgerigars are a breed of small Australian Parakeets. They are not
    native to either England or America. Their large cousins, cockatoos, I
    have seen challenge a horse at its feed bucket and drive it away. The
    cockatoo then proceeded to eat the grain.

1749.17wanna trade????CARTUN::MISTOVICHdepraved soulWed Jun 02 1993 15:095
    I'd be happy to trade in a half dozen or so finches for a husband. The
    finches are neat, clean, hardworking, good at carpentry, cheerful.
    Husband must be same. Loaded would help, too. ;-) ;-) ;-)
