1702.0. "Anyone from Princeton/Hubbardston/Petersham MA area ?" by SMAUG::MORENZ (JoAnne Morenz IBM I /C Eng. 226-5870) Fri Jan 15 1993 12:30

I am moving to Central/Western Massachusetts and I have no idea of what is out
there for horsey services and activities. I live near Bolton right now, but the
feed store and vet won't travel that far (Hubbardston). Fortunately my farrier
is willing to travel out there but I am really at a loss for the other things.

Does anyone out there come from that general area? Can you tell me what there is
for vets, feed stores and places to ride or riding clubs? Any suggestions would
be *greatly* appreciated.

	Thanks,
		JoAnne

I used to be on the BOD for the North County Riding and Driving Club, Inc.
They are headquartered in North Central Massachusetts. There were members
from Hubbardston, Princeton, Gardner, and even West Boylston, and New
Ipswich NH. Members have wide range of equine interests and they try
to run something to interest everyone during the year.

For more information call Diana Baer at 508-386-7556.
NCRDC Inc, Box 1491, Fitchburg MA, 01420

There is also the Barre Riding and Driving Club in Barre MA who have
several trail rides and schooling shows at Felton Field in Barre. You
want to call Kay Phelps about them. (Sorry I don't have her number.)

I don't know if the Monadnock Area Dressage Association is still going
or not. They are a little north of your area.

And there is also the Pioneer Valley Horsemens Assoc. (I think that's
the name) which is more for the west side of Quabbin I think, but might
  be worth looking into.

1702.2I wish I was in HubbardstonBREAK::SHEPHERDSat Jan 16 1993 07:2010
I don't live in Hubbardston, YET. I only plan on it someday.
We use the Buck Hill Veterinary Services, out of Spencer.
They will go to Hubbardston (I already asked). The phone number
is 508-885-4205. They are very good in my experiences.

By the way where in Hubbardston are you going to live. We have been
    looking on Hale Road.

For grain, there's Agway in Gardner. Also the Hubbardston Hardware
carries things in a limited supply. They have Blue Seal feeds,
shavings and a few other things. I bought bulk shavings from him this
fall and he delivered them, he's very nice and may deliver grain also,
I never asked. I use to go there all the time but now he closes at
    5:00 so it's less convenient.

I use Buck Hill Vet, many horse people here have them and we usually
arrange a day for spring shots at a discounted call rate, where they do
    all of us at once.

There is a big UCF Farm & Garden Center with huge silos out back
of their building on route 12/River St. in Fitchburg right next
to the Valley West Plaza. Not really sure what they carry but it
could be a source. Also I believe there is a place in Ashburnham
off of route 202 coming from Gardner way that sells Purina
product which may be worth looking into. It's been quite sometime
since i've driven by there. But I assume it's still in operation.

     Good Luck with the move!
