1678.0. "warm feet" by ASDG::PARSONS () Wed Nov 04 1992 14:44

    	My horse often has warm feet. I was wondering if I should be
    concerned about this or not? They are warmer in the evening and
    luke warm in the morning but never cool. I thought that the feet were
    suppose to be cool.

          My blacksmith says that probably the way she is. Another friend
    experienced horse person says that she is not over weight and not to
    worry about founder. But I'm still leary. I've only had her for 5
    months so maybe that is they way she is.

    She does have little feet size 00 and is 15hh. I did have a horse
    founder once and she had small feet too. I may be over concerned about
    this but I would like to see what others think. Thanks in advance

1678.1Have you asked your vet?DECWET::JDADDAMIOMontar con orgulloWed Nov 04 1992 15:133
    Why not ask your vet about the feet the next time she or he comes out?

    I don't think 00 feet are terribly small for a 15 h horse.
1678.2maybe you just have cold hands ;-)CARTUN::MISTOVICHWed Nov 04 1992 17:135
    I find that the apparent temperature of any horse's feet varies depending
    on the outside temperature and your own temperature.

    If I have any question about the temperature of a horse's feet, I will
    check one or two others for comparison.

    I find with my horses when their feet are warm, especially in one
    area that they are sore for some reason. My filly's left front
    inside was very warm last week, and when the blacksmith came he
    dug a quarter crack out of her heel! I knew that was coming though
    because of the way she was being shod by another blacksmith, too
    high on the inside.

    Like a previous noter said, that could just be the horse too. You
    could try to poultice her feet, and see if that draws any of the heat
    out.

    	Thanks for the input. I will ask my vet, next time he comes.
    Probably the way she is. I'm probably paranoid! I don't have another
    horse in the barn to compare.

1678.5you should check oftenKAHALA::HOLMESFri Nov 06 1992 12:5110
    I was told by a race trainer that you should check your
    horses legs and feet every day. Then you will notice
    a change.

    Warm - cold is so relative if you don't check all the
    time. General circulation problems may give different
    feelings in different limbs.
