1651.0. "Book shops & book dealers" by DECWET::JDADDAMIO (May the horse be with you!) Thu Aug 06 1992 17:15

I got tired of chasing around in various notes for addresses/phone numbers
of book dealers. Lots of the old notes don't include a phone number
anyway. Besides, the recession seems to have eliminated some of them. I
haven't seen ads for some(e.g. Bucephalus, Bright Books). Therefore, I'd
like to start a separate topic for book shops/dealers.

I'll start with just addresses/phones numbers for those that are discussed
in replies scattered thoughout several topics. I'll include references to
the original note. You can look there for lengthier descriptions about their
catalogs/services.

For those that I haven't come across in other notes, I'll include a
dsecription of their catalog/services as well as address & phone number.

Many book dealers also carry videos. So, I'll indicate whether or not
these carry videos when I know.

Feel free to enter your favorite book source if I haven't already listed it.
I guess it would be fair to include references to tack catalogs which offer
a good choice of books even though they generally don't offer much in the
way special order/search services. Also feel free to add comments/questions
about any of the services mentioned.

New & Used (US and imported) books on horse subjects

Very good source for all sorts of horse books which are difficult to find.
If you're looking for an out-of-print book, it's best to call and tell her
what you want. It's impossible to keep the used book part of her catalog
current because she buys/sells books all the time.

No videos.

See Note 169.18 -< Sources for rare or "out-of-print" books >- for description
of catalog, etc

Their catalog usually has a couple pages of books on sale at reduced price.
Catalog categories also include all kinds of training, novels, biographies

you simply call and ask about things you are interested in. No

1651.10Robin Bledsoe expands NEW book selectionsDECWET::JDADDAMIOSpeak softly;Carry a BIG carrot!Tue Dec 15 1992 13:3915
If you've never done business with Robin Bledsoe because she mainly
dealt with musty old out-of-print and antiquarian books, you might
change your mind. She's expanding her stock of NEW books significantly.

I got a catalog from her in yesterday's mail. In it she says that she
"will soon stock between 1500 and 2000 current titles from the United
    States, Canada, Europe amd Australia."

A quick glance through this new catalog showed books on a wide range of
subjects like: cowboys & rodeos, Polish Arabian breeding, racing,
dressage, QH's, Appys, equine artists(Stubbs, Munning, etc), mules,
draft horses, etc ...the list is TOO long for me to type...

If you're interested, call her for a catalog (617)576-3634 or visit her
shop in Cambridge MA(1640 Mass. Ave.) Tues-Sat 11-6

1651.11Pegasos Press gone?DECWET::JDADDAMIOSeattle Rain Festival: 1/1-12/31Wed Dec 22 1993 18:3414
I tried to call Pegasos Press recently and got the universal "The
number you have reached is no longer in service. No other information
    is available." message.

If they had simply moved, I think that they'd have sent out notices,
new catalogs or something but I haven't got any mail from them in over 6
months... The lack of mail and disconnected phone suggests they are
    history.

The good news is that Knight Equestrian Books is still going strong! I
hadn't got a new catalog in a *year* so I called to 1) find out if they
were still there and 2) ask about a particular book.

Janet said their new catalog will be mailed in January.
1651.12Update DECWET::JDADDAMIOSeattle:Life in the espressolaneThu Jan 12 1995 18:0819
I recently came across some additional book sellers who specialize
in equestrian books. Some are publishers of horse books who will
sell directly to the general public. Others are bookshops and/or
"catalog" sellers who work from a small office or something.

The avid readers among you may already be familiar with some of
these equine book dealers. However, although I read a *lot*, even
I haven't done business with all of them! I've added an English and
an Australian bookshop to the new list.

Don't overlook your local tack shop or even a feed store! I bought my
first copy of Podhajsky's "The Complete Training of Horse and Rider"
(which is a dressage book) in a feed store that had less than 6' of
bookshelf space. The tack shops in my area usually have a wide selection
of books, even books outside their line of tack. The western shops carry
dressage books and the dressage shops carry cowboy books....
