1617.0. "Looking for Carpenter" by ESCROW::ROBERTS () Wed Apr 08 1992 13:42

I'm looking to hire someone to do some repairs and renovations to my
barn. I'd rather find someone who has worked with horse structures
before, since *nobody* believes how strong things have to be unless
they've seen how easily horses destroy things. If I hire a carpenter
who's not experienced in this sort of thing, I'm afraid I'll have to
spend lots of time convincing him or her that Yes, it really HAS to
    be that strong!

I live in Chelmsford MA. Any recommendations?

Ellie, I know of someone, but he lives in Upton. I'll see him tonite
and can mention it. This guy has built several barns in the area,
and they are nice. He has a couple horses too.

    Ellie,

I use Mike Rand, of Tyngsboro. Although I haven't used him to do any
work on my barn, I have used him on the inside of my house, i.e.
putting in an old barn beam. He is very reasonable and quick. I have
    complete faith in his skill.

If you're interested, he should be in the telephone book, or I can get
    a number from my husband.

Also, my husband has used his talent at his repair shop, where things
    have to be sturdy!!!

He did a great job on the inside of my horse trailer, completely redid
the floors, and sides and new center panel, even included padded
carpeting for the horses sides!!! All this without ever having done a
horse trailer before. All my husband had to do was do some welding
on the frame (just in case work) and have it painted. It came out
    great!!!

    Good luck,

    Caryl

My husband is a carpenter and I have used him to redo the inside
of my barn. You are right. He had never built for horses before
and did not listen to me when I told him stall doors had to be
a certain height, strength, etc. From leaning and pushing,
everything has been pushed out of whack.

You are right. Hire someone who has horses and does carpentry
    work! I will next time.
