1451.0. "Family lessons???" by WMOIS::LAPIERRE_K () Fri Apr 12 1991 20:11

I hesitated putting this under lessons, for I feel that I am looking
for a little more. I have loved horse all my life, but unfortunately
have never been able to be around them or learn about them as much as I
would have liked to. I have taken lessons (no for long periods) in
Hunt Seat (never got past trotting). They are good, but I am looking
for something more personal. I now have enough land to have horses
(5 acres) and hope within the next year I will get a barn built.

I have a 2 year old and a 3 year old and we all LOVE horses!!!! oh my
husband too... to get on with it...... I would love to know
everything about horses and have hands on training for when I own one
someday, not just get on a saddled horse and work. I would like
someone who would give me advice, (should I get the girls a pony or
just over pony size, I am also considering changing to just learn
pleasure riding, maybe even western) I have long desired just to ride
to ride not to learn and workout. The last lessons I took were great,
but like I said I am looking for something more personal. My 3
year old daughter (then 2) was able to get the last 5 minutes of
my lesson just to go around the ring. She was thrilled!!! I would
feel guilty to have the opportunity to take lessons and not be able
to have my 2 girls involved, for their desire is so intense. At
2 years old she would sit and watch me for 25 minutes, just so she
could have that last 5 minutes. She was a perfect angel I may add.

So I guess what I am looking for is for someone to help/train us for
    owning a horese. FAMILY LESSONS.

Have you ever heard of this??? I live in the Hubbardston area.

When I am to own a horse I want to treat it the best way possible and
    ride him/her the proper way.

    Thanks,

    Karen

You might try contacting your local 4-H horse group...they may be
willing to help you out or know of someone looking for help with
their horses. It might be nice to go to someones barn for cleaning,
feeding and all around horse care, plus some riding of course!!

    Good luck

You are more than welcome to come down on a Saturday or Sunday when we
are around and get a feel for what it takes.
Part of the problem now is that show season is coming up and weekends
    are very full.
The Fall is usually better for us but please feel free to call and see
    if we are around.
We have a family operation which we are presently scaling down. We
were up to as many as 15 horses when we were breeding and showing. But
no matter how many animals we have there are still the daily chores to
be done so as I said, please feel free to call....508-522-7412. By the
way we are in Sterling Mass.

    Karen,

I would also be more than willing to help you out. We have a farm in
Winchendon MA, not too far from you and we presently have two horses.
Although I no longer teach I was licensed, and we both raise and train
our own horses. I also work in the Westminster facility.

Stop by anytime, I am located at Pole D15 EXT-3102.
