Does anyone know if there is a note on ringworm in this conference?
Thanks, Helen.

There is no note devoted to ringworm (that I know of), however note 1206 mentions it, since they discuss skin fungi. There is a keyword SKIN_PROBLEMS that should point to any mentions of ringworm. | |||||

Is there any particular information you are looking for? I don't
know of anything in the conference but I have a couple of good
medical guides at home......

Yes, my pony Robbie has it all over his nose!
Specifically, how contagious is it? Robbie has his own bucket,
headcollar, grooming kit, etc., and I am trying to remember to wash my
hands after handling him. Is there anything else I need to do? Should
my tack be disinfected, or will ordinary cleaning get rid of the
spores? (Robbie is not being ridden for a few days, as he also has a
bruised sole ...) I plan to disinfect all his brushes and so on once
the infection has cleared up.
Also, is ringworm uncomfortable? It doesn't seem to bother him at all.
I'd be grateful for any information.
Thanks,
Helen.

I've heard that ringworm is EXTREMELY contagious. SOunds like you
should talk to your vet.

Helen,
Ringworm is VERY contagious, but clears up very easily, with the help
of a solution (can't remember the name!) obtained from your vet.
As for is it uncomfortable/painful for a horse, I dont know I can only
speak for myself, as I've had Ringworm on my arms, and that wasn't
painful, just itchy. Is your pony stabled near cows? They are the main
carriers.

Thanks for your replies.
Robbie has been seen by the vet, and is being treated with Fulcin
powder in his feed. He normally lives out, but was kept in a cattle
pen for a few days in January when lame, which is where I think he
caught it.
Helen.
