615.0. "Brindle Ledge Farm (and Classic horse show)" by ASD::MCCROSSAN () Tue Mar 19 1991 13:01

Has anyone out there in "noteland" ever been to any shows at Brindle Ledge Farm
in Goffstown NH? If so, what are the shows like? I've heard that their
facilities are beautiful and the people are very nice, but I was wondering more
about the shows...

Let's put it this way, if someone hadn't been to a hunter/jumper show in many,
many years, would this be a possible place to "get into the swing of things"?

Thanks in advance for any information, and feel free to send me mail directly...

I live near there, it's a real nice facility, with excellent
instructors. The board is (to me) astronomically high. They
do provide a lot of extra services, though. From what I've
seen of their shows/horses, I'd say get your feet wet at
other local shows, however. I don't know you're level of riding,
but to me any show committee that calls 3.6' fences *puddle
jumpers* has a pretty good sense of humor! :-) Seriously,
though, read through on of the recent notes in 1130, it
has a class list for their April 6 show and should give
you an idea of what they offer.

There shows are limited [so far] to jumper and equitation classes.
No hunter classes are offered. Edie [from Bridle Ledge] has top
notch people running her April 6th show. It looks like she is trying
to attract the major jumper riders in this area to her show series.
As the previous note mentioned the division with the lowest fences
is 3'6" [puddle-jumpers], so it's a show meant for serious jumper
    competitors.

Thanks for the replies so far...

I received a class list and I think it lists puddle jumpers as 2'6" - 3' (which
certainly sounds reasonable to me ;^)

Thanks everyone for giving me some comments/suggestions!

I know the shows they used to run a couple of years ago, were not very
well organized schooling shows. The real buddle-jumpers. They were not
    terribly well judged either.
The facility is nice, the treatment of horses rather less. Maybe they
have changed their tune and are trying to attract the upper class. That
does not mean they know better how to jump, they just think.

To begin I would still rather go the schooling shows at Pegasus in
Westford, Pam Hunt in Haverhill, Medfield, there are plenty of others
around. New England Peddler has a good selection.

I no longer live in the USA, I am now in Switzerland. You cannot find
Special Hunter, oder Senior Hunter only 3'6" fences and higher. 90% do
not know how to jump and the horse takes more or less care of that,
willingly or unwillingly. You don't see young children with their
ponies, which I always found great entetainment to watch.

Good luck and all you horselovers, have a great Spring, Summer and Fall
of course Winter too. Good health and success.

Can anyone update me on what's happening up at Brindle Ledge Farm? I
think they've had some personnel and horse changes, and the name has
changed to Brindle Ledge Equine Center. Also, they are advertising
something about Upreach Therapuetic Riding. What is that?
615.6Brindle Ledge?ACESMK::WILLIAMSMon Jun 15 1992 11:2826
I'll try to answer some of your questions. Yes, there have been some
personnel changes. There is a new center manager and several other
changes in personnel. Don't know much about the changes since they
occurred very quickly and not much is being said about them. I do
think that the changes were for the better. The center has recently
retired 6 or 7 of their problem animals and are in the process of
picking up better grade schooling horses. They currently stable
approx. 40-50 animals of which approx 25% are for schooling. The rest
are either privately owned or thorobreds being raised for the track.

I currently take hunter jumper lessons there and am very pleased with
the results. They have already held 2 horse shows for the students and
the indoor facility is exceptionally nice.

To answer your question about the Upreach Therapuetic Riding, they have
recently purchased several very nice horses for this program. It is
basically a program for the retarded. I cannot tell you when the
program will formally start but do know that this program will happen.

I also know that one of the Instructors (Anne) is setting up a cross
country course with jumps. There are over 200 acres at the center and
some new programs being considered. I would suggest that you call them
directly at (603)497-8000 in Goffstown N.H. and ask to talk to either
Melissa or Anne. They should be able to advise you further.

Can't rightly say I remember the name. If that was a schooling horse,
I haven't seen that name on the roster lately. That's not to say that
that horse isn't any longer there.

They're constantly selling and buying that it's hard to keep track and
besides, there are so many horses there to start off with. You know
what I mean? I'll ask if you'd like. Is that a horse you've ridden
    in the past?

My neighbors sent their TB mare up there a few weeks ago, supposedly to
be used in the lesson program in exchange for her getting training
(they have no ring to ride in and have had a very difficult time
working with her). It didn't work out, though, Im told because the
horse was so difficult to get cantering that for a lesson horse she
proved unsuitable, and she was sent back home after staying only 2
weeks. (Her name is Tequila, and she is an absolutely enormous chestnut
mare, dont' know if -1 would have seen her up there or not?)

At any rate, rumor around town (I live in next-door Weare, and the
rumor mill among local horse owners is very active...we probably need
to get out more)....the rumor is that the management change is due to
Edie's divorce. She's running a real nice place in Hopkinton now, seems
happy up there. We were going to board my bro's TB gelding at Brindle
Ledge while having his new stall added to our barn last fall, but
didn't like it as far as a boarding facility goes....was going to
insert the reasons here but it would probably be inappropriate in a
    company forum to do so.

The indoor facilities are very nice, though, and their lesson program
is said to be excellent and their trainers very reputable.

Are they having a series of shows this year? I did go and watch the
one that they had in 4/91. It was a beautiful day and they had a good
turn out but I haven't gone this year. Dixie is a dark chestnut mare
with a big scar on her hip. She has eyes that always look surprised!

Karen, I do know that Brindle has had invitational shows in the past
but there has only been one so far this year. I don't know if more
have been planned. I don't think so. There has been a turnover in
management and a number of improvements are being made, one being the
creation of the hunter course. I'll try to keep everyone posted of
pending events in this notes file.

I have not Dixie there recently. Perhaps she's been moved. I'll ask
    this Saturday.

Does Brindle Ledge still have their tack shop?

    Karen
615.13Tack shopACESMK::WILLIAMSFri Jul 10 1992 11:5215
There have been some real problems relating to the tack shop. From
second hand information, the manager of the tack shop was somehow
related to the own of the farm by marriage and there was a particularly
nasty divorce. With that came a whole lot of problems relating to the
tack shop and since then the shop has been closed and it's operation
placed into the hands of a divorce attorney. My understanding is that
the shop will be closed until further notice.

Note: Since then, I have been dealing with Parade Acres of Concord,
NH. Their prices and service are equivilent. See the Tack Shops note
    for further information.

I hope this answers your question.
