1411.0. "Saddle appraisal needed...Help!" by DNEAST::WEBSTER_THER (The Lord is my Shepherd) Tue Feb 05 1991 13:38

About two years ago I purgchased a saddle for my husband. The
saddle was made somewhere around the 1920's or 30'. It was purchased
through Montgomery Ward...I bought it from my young friend(she's 76!)
whom had recieved it from a cousin as a gift when the cousin lost her
horse. When I bought the saddle a gentelman had offered her more than
I agreed to pay her for it...but I had first dibs. The seat is very
deep and a bit too small for my husband. He would like to sell it.

A local (in Maine) tack dealer said he might get $500 to $3,600.
for the saddle depending on where he bought it...i.e. a local quarter
horse show or an antiques auction in PA. Does anyone have any
knowledge of saddle appraisers in the NE area? Or know of an antiques
dealer that might know about this saddle? We have been told that it
was probably made here in NE somewhere and it has two numbers stamped
on the left front fender. One number is 1880 and the other is 243, I
think. Not to sure about the latter number.

We would appreciate any help. I put a note in Antiques also for
    help.

There are several tack repair services listed in topic 300, perhaps
one of them could help you, or at least point you in the right
    direction? Good luck!

You could try Sue Gregg, her number is (203)928-9204. She
deals in antique saddlery, mostly side saddles, but if she
can't help you I think she would know of someone who could.
