108.0. "Hanoverians" by TDCIS3::CERTAIN () Wed Jan 23 1991 10:47

Hello. My name's Patricia Certain and I work in France. I have 2 horses,
one a Hanoverian filly who is presently in England, but which I'll be
bringing back to France in August. The other is a gelding, 4 years old,
part pony, part Arab. Hanoverians are my main interest, and are not a
widely known breed here in France. If anyone else has Hanoverians, I
would be interested to have their comments.

    Hi Patricia,

I also own a Hannoverian. I now live and work in Arizona and found
him via the Dressage barn where I take lessons. I don't have alot of
information on the history of the breed - which I would like to hear
more about. My horses' papers are in German but I was able to
determine that his mother was Oldenburg and his father was
Hannoverian. On both sides there are State Premium mares.

He is trained to 4th level dressage but was in training for A rated H/J
shows last summer. He is 16.3 and approx 1400 lbs. and truly a gentle
giant - very quiet and forgiving - a great teacher.

There is a Hannoverian Society here in the US that provides information
and services to Hannoverian owners and breeders - maybe there is a
    similar organization in France?

What plans do you have for your filly? Dressage or breeding?

    Good luck!

    Hi, Janice,

I was pleased to see that I'd got a reply. I was beginning to think
    that I owned a rare breed !

My filly is called Daisy's Bee Bee, Bee Bee for short. I got very
interested in Hanoverian breeding, and contacted the Celle Stud in
Germany to find out all her history. She belongs to the "A" line
(Absatz, Abglanz, ...). Several of her "ancestors" were at the state
stud. Her Sire, Baron B is at stud in England, and her Dam is a pure
bred Irish Draught Horse. At 2 years, Bee Bee stands at over 17 hands,
and has a lovely character. I'll be bringing her back to France in
August, if I can get the import papers sorted out ! As yet, I don't
know whether she'll be best in dressage or jumping ... time will tell,
especially as she's not broken in yet. At a much later stage I hope to
start breeding with her. I believe that Hanoverians are usually pretty
    good all rounders.

Hanoverians are inexistant here in France, and not "recognised" by any
Stud book, but I'm hoping things will change at the end of 1992 with
the single market. I know there's a very important Hanoverian Society
    in the States.

If you are interested, I bought a book, in English, called
"Hanoverians". It is very interesting, and gives all the history and
breeding in Germany. You can no doubt order it in the States, as I did
here in France, and it really is most enlightening.

Do let me have details of your horse, I'd be most interested.

108.3H. are popular hereCGOO01::LMILLERhasten slowlyWed Jan 30 1991 14:0118
Hanoverians are very popular up here in Canada. One of the primier
show grounds and barns (SPRUCE MEADOWS) has a breeding programme with
them - mainly in the area of show jumping but some dressage. We have a
couple of Hannoverian and parts there of in our barn and well as other
German types (Westphalian/Oldenburg etc). It is one of the more
popular breed for dressage and for the hunter type ring. I used to
know people in the UK who bred Hanoverians (The stud was owned by
a Mrs. Kydd and the name was "MAPLE" - the horses where known as
"MAPLE DUEL"/"MAPLE DUELLIST" etc. As an aside this lady is better
known in Europe for her driving of Norwegien Fjord ponies. She was a
trifle potty but used to win a great deal.

    I don't have a Hanoverian or part as I didn't want a baby and I
couldn't afford anything older than a 3 year old. And some of the
partbreds up here are a bit well .... So instead I have an loony
anglo arab - which I believe is very popular in France - and I thing
the show jumping team rides these critters almost exclusively.

Although I don't know Mrs. Kidd personally, I know about the Maple
Stud. Maple Duellist (by Duellant) was imported from abroad in the
1960's, and started a new line. Many of his offspring are well known in
dressage. Maple Courier, with Anglo Arab blood, was bought in 1976 to
replace Maple Duellist, and stood at stud for 10 years, also producing
dressage horses such as Cocum Eliab. He was sold when the stud was
dispersed around 1986. Bee Bee's Sire, Baron B, stands at stud at the
    Furze Hill stud in Surrey.

The main breed here in France is the French Saddle horse, and it is
this breed mainly used by the French show jumping team. E.g. Quito de
Baussy, ridden by Eric Navet, and owned by the French National Stud.
Jappeloup retired from international competition in December, but will
carry on jumping for this year, before definitive retirement.

I believe Gail Greenborough is one of your national riders. I saw her
jump in Paris. Also Ian Miller is very well known.

That is very interesting - I didn't know the Maple stud was dispersed
I've lived here for nearly 10 years - my dealing with the Maple stud
was Maple Duellist still alive and Maple Courier had just arrived.
Very well behaved - I was most impressed - most of the stallions that
I'd had dealings with were not as placid - being either TB or hackneys.
I was just a tagalong to my friend who was breeding some mares there at
the time. I knew I wanted one then I saw these, but life was not to
be instead I got an Anglo which at least is the same colour and
    markings!

Not only do we boast of Gail Greenhough (who actually comes from
Edmonton), Ian Millar but also the Olypmic dressage bronze medal team.
Also the second or third (depends on who you speak to) best show
jumping facilities in the world - Spruce Meadows - (Aachen and Hickstead
being the others). I was lucky to actually speak to and "rub
shoulders" with my childhood heroes/heroines over the last few years at
Spruce and hopefully within the next couple of years ride there in the
    hunter divisions.

108.6A Hanovarian of my own!MR4SRV::CHMIBU::MShamelMon Dec 06 1993 11:2125

This past week I found the 'small warmblood' I was looking for and he is a
Hanovarian!

Yes, I am the very proud owner of a 7 year old, bay, 16H, Hanovarian gelding.
He is dressage trained (was 1992 AHSA Zone I Champion at Training Level,
competed at Saratoga at both Training and First Level) and is excellent on
the trails.

I found him in Colchester, VT and his name was (and will continue to be) Mick
Dundee.

I know nothing of papered Hanovarians so any help on this would be
appreciated:

He is a 'pink papered' and they are in German. His father is Lepanto and his
mother is Stormwarning. His great grandfather appears to be Lugano I (I know
I have heard of hits horse somewhere!).

Am I supposed to 'transfer ownership' and does anyone know how to do it?

Needless to say, I am glad the search is over but am ecstatic about the
result! Mick is exactly what I was looking for in my partner.
108.7Hanoverian Values? FOR26::BRAMBLETTMon Apr 04 1994 11:397

I came across an ad for a Grey Hanoverian. Does anyone know if
the value of Grey Hanoverians is less than the darker hanoverians?

    Thanks,
    Linda
