1406.1Bread???WJOUSM::GARROWWed Dec 26 1990 11:118
My sister always fed her horses leftover bread and she had never had
any problems. I have read that bread is not good for them. I'll try
to find the book I read that in and let you know why it's not. Unless
someone else can answer before I get to it.

How about bananas, my horses love bananas (even the peel).

I always feed my two guys leftover bread too (they love it) and
I've never had a problem with it. I only feed them a few pieces
at a time though. I can see where feeding them a whole bunch
might cause problems if they drank a lot of water afterwards and
it swelled up in their stomachs. I can't imagine feeding nothing
    but bread!

Mine do bananas (plus peels) too! :-) And they LOVE sunflower
seeds. The bird feeders are right next to the paddock and the
poor birds had a tough time getting any of the seed!

My horse used to mooch everything (or try to) I had in my
hand , at horse shows.. I dont think i would give them bananans
buecause I thought thye were gassy, (like cabbage)

the only thing I wouldnt feed my horse is an form of meat
(thru my vet science) I recall someone saying that the digestive
    track couldnt handle it...

My horse and goats LOVE bread...but I make sure that it's whole grain
and that it has no preservatives in it. It's a real treat when they
get it...and beg and beg to get more!

I also feed some bread. Mine like it hard as a rock. The soft sticks
inside his mouth and he has a bad time with it. There is also a mare
that can only be caught with bread. I only will feed a few slices to
each as a treat. I would not want to feed out to much. As someone
earlier had mentioned that with water it may swell and also do to the
    starch.

    Happy New Year,

I read about bread as a feed staple in one of the
horse mags......Don't remember much on the details,
