HI FOLKS! I'M LOOKING FOR SOME INFORMATION FROM SOMEONE OUT THERE REGARDING KANATA. I AM CONSIDERING A MOVE TO EITHER AUGUSTA, ME. OR KANATA. FOLKS HAVE ALREADY SENT ME QUITE A LOT OF INFORMATION REGARDING THE AUGUSTA AREA. WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR IS INFORMATION FROM ANYONE WHO WOULD KNOW WHAT IT WOULD TAKE TO SETTLE IN THE KANATA PLANT AREA. SUCH AS: WHAT IS REQUIRED TO BRING YOUR HORSES INTO THE COUNTRY? YOUR CATS? PURCHASING PROPERTY....WHAT ARE THE LAWS REGARDING A U.S. CITIZEN PURCHASING? WHAT IS REQUIRED TO GET A WORK PERMIT IN THAT COUNTRY? WHAT IS THE TIME LIMIT ON A WORK PERMIT? HOW DOES THAT ALL WORK IF YOU WANT TO CONTINUE TO STAY IN CANADA BEYOND THE INTIAL PERMIT TIME SPAN? ANY INFORMATION AT ALL REGARDING HORSES IN THE AREA....VETS, TYPES OF FEED (IS BLUE SEAL IN CANADA?), ETC. ANY OTHER INFORMATION THAT MIGHT BE HELPFUL WOULD BE MORE THAN WELCOME. I WILL ALSO PLACE A NOTE IN THE CANADA NOTES FILE....JUST THOUGHT THERE MIGHT BE SOME RIDERS OUT THERE THAT HAVE BEEN THROUGH IT.... THANKS!

I read your note in the Canada file as well but I'll answer your animal questions here. 1. Usually, horses have no problem crossing the border. You will have to have some type of ownership/identification papers. There must be a vet at the crossing - check before you go which crossing you have to go through, only some are geared for Vet Inspection and if you go "out of hours" you may have to wait or worse pay for the travel of a vet to inspect your horse. You should have a current Coggins Test. This pre-requist varies for province to province. We don't need it out here but they may back east. 2. Cats - require either a rabies shot given in the last six months or a letter from the Ministry of Agriculture (or what ever) saying that there has been no rabies in the COUNTRY for at least six months. (This will only apply to such places as NZ or UK etc) AND a certificate from a vet NOT less than 10 days old saying your cat/s are in good health. These papers are handed over at the border and you pets get a look over from a Min. of Ag. person. They are usually alway available. My cats and I have travelled from the UK to USA and back to Canada and I have just imported a kitten from the UK (Yes I paid for this one!). I also used to cross border with horses when I lived in BC. To confirm this - phone the consulate in BOSTON - I am sure there is one and talk to someone there. As for moving to Canada - to get a work permit can be difficult as we also have unemployment etc. The best way to to marry a Canadian - I did! Seriously, I can't say if you can or cannot work in Kanata plant but I do know that you have to leave the US organization and rejoin the Canadian. There is no problem owning land/houses etc basically the only restriction is that you can't vote or get hand guns easily. By the way if you ever intend on returning to the US to live or work - you must still file US income tax - the IRS will track you down! I now hold dual - US and Canadian - it has been officially okay since May of 1990. Linda I am an US ci

Used to ride around Kanata. Very horsey country...but the weather is not exactly clement, too muggy (with bugs ++) in the summer and too cold ( --25C) in the winter. Lots of stables and supplies and vets; with good horse shows and clubs and coaches. English.

If you are considering to move to the kanata area there are lots of farms available within a 30 minute drive. I have a 150 acre farm and I'm only 35 minutes to kanata. but of coarse if you buy a place closer to the city then it's going to be expensive thats why i'm out where i am. (And loving it) Hope this helps |
