good substitute!) they showed their 1/2 hour weekly showjumping update at
8:30 but now world championships!

1337.3 | change from sunday to tuesday | STNDUP::LMCCROSSAN | Time out for a hot fudge sundae | Thu Aug 16 1990 15:18 | 10 |
| Something must have changed because T.V. Week from the Sunday Boston Globe
had listed the World Championships on Sportchannel from 8-10 p.m. and yet when
I looked in Tuesday's Boston Globe (a daily paper) all that was listed was
the 1/2 hour World of Showjumping... grrr...
And here I was thinking, "Wow, an equestrian sport is actually going to get
some televised coverage..." Next time I won't get my hopes up, I'll know better.
Maybe they'll come on in the future, but next time, I'll know to check the
*daily* paper ;^)

1337.4 | I saw it! | BSS::SACHS | | Thu Aug 16 1990 15:58 | 33 |
| It was on here in Colorado Springs. However, for us it started at
6:00pm. It was quite a show!
The top four were Eric Nevay of France, John Whittaker of Great
Britain, Somebody Hubbert of France and Greg Best of America.
Greg didnt have such a hot night racking up the only 4 faults
that Gem Twist had that night. He finished with 24 faults and
the winner only had 4.5.
The course was grueling and all the horses looked pretty tired by
the time it was said and done. Anne Kursinski didn't fair to great
either. When I saw her go, Starman looked bushed. I think they
had 12 faults.
The only part that I saw was the individual competition. I was under
the impression that a team competition and puisance (sp) competition
had gone on earlier.
They also had a short discussion of the controversy as to the
selection of the American team. Debbie Dolan was really upset about
being dropped from the team in favor of Anne Kursinski. I really
enjoy seeing both of them ride, but I really did feel like
Anne was the best choice (just an opinion, I'm sure the team
selection committee couldn't care less what I think). While
they mentioned a controversy with the German team, no one said
it had to do with poling. I was wondering if this was what
they were talking about. Apparently, several trainer/rider
combinations were forced to withdraw over this controversy.
It was a good show!

1337.6 | World Competition rescheduled | CSSE::ESSER | | Fri Aug 17 1990 14:38 | 7 |
| I called Sports Channel here in Boston about the World
Equestrian Show that was supposed to be on this past week.
It was rescheduled to 11:30 P.M. Sunday evening, 8/19,
because of the Canadian Football Game (Doug Flutie's new
team). The channel programmer was very nice and assured
me it would be aired. So either you stay up late or
hopefully have a vcr...

1337.8 | I have it on tape. | GENRAL::LEECH | Customer Services Engineer ** We do the job ** | Mon Aug 20 1990 17:54 | 10 |

I have a non-horsey friend who taped the broadcast for me. It was 2
hours of the stadium jumping showing the final qualifing round and
three of the four final rounds where all of the riders changed horses.
It was still a great two hours.
