1307.0. "Help to Give Shots?" by AKOV12::GLOVER () Fri Jul 13 1990 15:50

Would any of you `experts' out there be willing to teach/help me get in
the swing again (used to work for Lg Animal Vet in College) of giving
my own horses their yearly shots?

I am willing to give you anything (almost) in return for your help. I
am located in Townsend and work in Acton. I am willing to travel to
anyplace in this state or So. NH. Thanks for your consideration.

It might be best to get a vet to show you how to give shots,
especially if you can get him/her to demonstrate on your own
horses, that way you'll know of any special considerations
you need to make for your own horses.

Also, something to consider...if you plan to transport your
horses anywhere you may need to have a vet's certificate
showing that the shots were given. If you give the shots
yourself, you can't prove that to officials who may ask
   for the paperwork.

Kiirja, excellent suggestion. I will have see if the vet would brief
me. Often times, the vets won't assist because it takes $ out of their
pocket. $80-100 just for shots and a house call is good profit. With
five *pets* (two horses, two cats, and a puppy) my vet bills are
    astronomical!!

    Thanks for the help.

P.S. My horses are for pleasure only, they stay on the farm.

well you could always *tell* the vet you'll buy the shots from him
(and do it the first year on good faith - you never know *when* you'll
    need his services).......

Sorry for my late response! So much for summer being slow and easy.
Great idea on buying my shots from the vet. My vet is very practical
and doesn't like to make a house call for things owners can handle
themselves ie. little scrapes and thing like that. He usually gives
consult over the phone first, unless it's an emergency - he comes right
out no matter what time. Thanks. I'll give him a try with the shots.
