1270.0. "STOW WC [Digital] HS ROUNDTABLE" by ASABET::OWEN () Tue Jun 19 1990 09:51

Who's going? What divisions are you in? ETC.

Last weekend I said that if I did well at North Shore in the Special
Adult Hunters that I would move into the Adult Amateur Division this
weekend. We were Reserve Champion at North Shore, so I guess I'll bite
    the bullet and do A/A.

1270.1ANOTHER ADULT AMATEURMFGMEM::LEMIRETue Jun 19 1990 12:0013
I will be going with Daybreak Ventures (out of Course Brook Farm in
Sherborn), on my leased dapple-gray horse "Cody" aka "Just Another Romeo."
There will be one other adult, and two juniors also going.

We will do the Adult Eq and the Adult Amateur Hunter. We didn't do
well at North Shore, but not as nervous as I used to be, and that
    feels pretty good!

Who do you ride with? What does your horse look like/name?

    Jennie

P.S. Congrats on your results at NSHA!

I ride with Denise Marks of South Wind Farm of Hollis, NH.

Markie's show name is Upper West Side. She's a big attractive chestnut
filly. There are several Amateur Adults in our barn as well as a
junior who just moved up to Adult Eq and Amateur/Owners and a medium
pony hunter. We're in a rust-colored 6-horse van with orange stripes.

Good luck! I hope the weather holds out for Sunday.

We may or may not be going.

Beth's mare possibly bowed a tendon at Shallowbrook a couple of weeks
ago. I haven't talked to her or her trainer since then to see how
she's doing. She's laid up for at least 2 weeks.

The grey pony, Touch of Grey, may go. He was short stirrup hunter
champion at Shallowbrook. He'll do short stirrup again if they do
decide to go. The mare and the pony trailer together and split
expenses so I don't know if one will go without the other.

I live right around the corner from OGO so I may take a ride down
anyways whether they decide to go or not.

Anybody has a prize list for this show?

Yes, I do. What do you need to know?

I have a friend who's interested in pleasure or
adult hunter flat classes. She would prefer not to go to
Stow (likes schooling shows better) but if there's classes
for her she'll go as she can get a free ride. My bet would be her main
interest is pleasure -- are there any classes at Stow?

    Thanks,
    Dawn

There are two Hunter pleasure flat classes and I suppose she could
enter some of the Hunter Under Saddles like Special Senior Under
    Saddle.
Most of the classes are $20 each, but the Hunter Pleasure might be $15.
There's also a $10 post entry fee and $5 AHSA drug fee.

Your friend might want to look into the show on Saturday at North Light
Farm in Lunenberg. It's an unrated schooling show. There was a note
posted at one time that listed the classes for all of the North Light
Shows. I think it's in the upcoming horse show note.

I passed another milestone. My first A/A division on my mare. We had
    one
very good round and a second respectable round. We were third on the
flat. She also was third and fifth in the low hunter with my trainer in
    a division of 54 horses!

I met Jennire Lemire. Hi Jennie! There were three know DECies in the
A/A division on Sunday. [ie. known]
1270.10Poor show mgmtASABET::OWENMon Jun 25 1990 09:0029
What did you think about the Adult Amateur Under Saddle? Was anyone
as angry as I was? That ring was too crowded and they never muoved
any jumps! Also, was it really necessary for them to be raising and
measuring the jumps during our Under Saddle? This restricted circling
and cutting across the ring. If you got stuck in a bunch of horses, esp.
    at the canter forget it!

I came around one corner in the canter at the first direction and
    looked
up the line to see three horses passing between two jumps at the canter
very close to one another. The middle horse freaked and deposited his
rider, Kim Kolloff, on the ground. NONE OF THE SHOW OFFICIALS SAW AND
CALLED FOR THE WALK. Those of us up in that corner were yelling [while
still cantering] that someone was off and hurt! Kim was taken out of
the ring on a stretcher. I hope she's ok. I think everyone who shows
knows Kim, she such a nice person and so outgoing. She's just
recuperating from a layup due to an operation too.

I FEEL VERY STRONGLY THAT COMPLAINTS SHOULD BE MADE TO NEHC. Many shows
move jumps for crowded hack classes. Shows that Jerry Briggs runs do
not! It is dangerous to horse and rider even when everyone is in
control! Secondly, the ring crew were so intent on raising jumps for
    the
next division that they failed to notice immediately a seriously hurt
rider thrown from her horse while everyone was cantering.

WILL ANYONE ELSE JOIN ME IN MY COMPLAINT TO NEHC?

    RE: Poor Show Mgmt

Beth, I agree that jumps should be moved for under saddle classes when
the ring is crowded. I was coming up the long side when I saw the
2-3 horses up ahead start kicking each other and Kim fall off. I
immediately halted even though no command was given, and several around
me did the same - I think that helped call the officials' attention
    to the problem.

I also noticed (after they had taken Kim away and the class started
again), the jump crew and their tape measure fluttering between them
running amidst several horses to measure another fence. I really
couldn't believe they would continue with behavior like that after
    the unfortunate incident.

I will write a note to NEHC as well. I had not noticed that at Gerry's
shows they don't take the fences down. I think he does a generally
good job of managing and setting courses, but it would be a lot safer
all around if the fences were down.

    re: .9

Getting back to the lighter side, I had a lot of fun at this show
for several reasons. The grounds were lovely, I got to impress my
coach and other riders with Digital's generosity in allowing the use
of the facility, the courses were fun, the warm-up area excellent,
and I got to meet all the Digital folks I knew would be there!

My pace was better this week, but my horse is still sucking back
1-2 strides before the fence which caused us to pop several of
them even though the distance was there. Still a few problems
getting smooth changes as well. Our flat classes went very well,
no mistakes. So, I will keep working at improving.

Kris, thanks for your kind words after the Adult Eq. flat class,
I appreciate your watching. Nancy, you have a lovely horse in Daniel, I
know you are going to keep doing better! Beth, my trainer was
quite impressed with your horse, and congratulations on breaking
into the A/A division - you should be in there! Along with
Nancy Nelson from South Wind, there were actually four of us DECcies
in the A/A. Hope to see you all at North Shore or somewhere in
    July.

Incidently, a good friend of mine rides at the same barn that Kim does.
[She works at DEC too]. She's going to find out tonight how Kim is and
    I'll post a note tomorrow.
    Beth

PS Thanks for the ego-building compliments Jennie. I'm really impressed
with my mare too. I lucked into her. We got her from Virginia. Her dad
was a AHSA High Score Hunter. She was bred to show and never raced but
her farm went under and she went with the auction. Fortunately, she was
too young for the horse dealers to want to keep [2 yrs.] at the time.
They want quick turnaround. So she came to New Hampshire where we
    waited for her to mature.

According to her trainer, Kim Koloff was not seriously hurt after her
fall at the Stow horse show.
1270.15NEHC Adult Medal next yr?REGENT::WIMBERGTue Jun 26 1990 15:4814

I talked to Nancy Clayton, show coordinator, while at the show about
having the adult medal. She has checked the records, they have never
had the NEHC Adult Medal at the show but she'll look into for next
year. I told her several adults competitors were asking about it.

    Nancy

PS - thanks Jeannie for the nice comments about Daniel, I"m real happy
with him. Its interesting that he and Cody look alot alike. I'd hope
the weather would stay cool for you but I like the heat.

    See ya' around.

1270.16Where?ESCROW::ROBERTSTue Jun 04 1991 11:206
Since I'm new to both Digital and this area, I dont know anything about
this show. Could someone give some more info? Where is it? What's
the connection with Diogital? What type of show is it? (I'm assuming
    it's a show -- not really sure.)

    Thanks.
1270.17TOMLIN::ROMBERGmoney: it's only paperTue Jun 04 1991 13:262
It's connection with Digital is that the show is held at the Stow (OGO)
facility. Other than that, it's an ordinary horse show.
