How do you fit (know it will fit) an English Bridle to a horse? I have a large QH Gelding who is even hard to fit western for bridles, halters, etc. I cannot afford new stuff, so I have been looking at used bridles. Any hints would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you or anyone you know has used English bridles (any style, but would like to be able to use what I think is called a "Figure-8" or a bridle that already has this built-in. My brat may need this.) that are reasonable. I don't need "show quality" yet, this would be for start-up purposes. Again, your help would be appreciated. I read some of the other notes, but not being English experienced, some of the stuff was beyond my comprehension. What I really need is a "Show & Tell Session"!!!!! While bridles come in different "sizes" - pony, cob, horse (full size) etc:, I did the obvious when I was looking for new tack for my horse. I took a tape measure and recorded his critical dimensions. Being a draft horse mostly, he had a large head and a disposition that allowed waving a tape measure around his head. The critical dimensions I took were from one corner of his mouth over his poll to the other corner, circumference at the nose band and throat latch positions. Then I took the measurements and tape measure to the tack shop and compared with what they had. As an aside, when I bought me harness, I took my horse to the tack shop to try it on before I bought it! | |||||

Thank you! I think I will try your measurement method. L- |
