1173.0. "Schooling Show Vs. Pace Event" by MASTIC::KATE () Wed Jan 31 1990 08:37

    We would greatly appreciate your vote:

    Our 4-H horse club had a meeting last night to start planning a
    schooling horse show. Upon closer examination, we realized that
    the cost involved is quite high, and we were afraid of losing a
    lot of the club's reserve money. The other popular suggestion was
    to hold a pace event.

    We are concerned that fewer and fewer people are showing, and our
    club enrollment is small, so we don't want to hold something
    very elaborate. WHICH WOULD YOU BE MORE LIKELY TO ATTEND?

     - The show would be held in May or June at the Westford Fairgrounds,
       with both hunt seat and stock seat classes. We wanted to get a good
       judge who would be willing to offer a lot of suggestions after
       each class.

     - The hunter pace would be held in May or June in the Carlisle forest
       and would have a flats, a fences and a western division.

    Please leave your votes as replies - even if you don't live anywhere
    near Mass, it would really help us with our decision on the more
    popular activity.  Thanks!

    The schooling show...especially one put on by a 4-H group. I love
    the relaxed atmosphere of shows put on by these groups and a schooling
    show would be great for the kids.

1173.2Carlisle is PERFECT for pace eventHYEND::RUSSAUWed Jan 31 1990 13:0615

    I went to a 4-H sponsored Hunter Pace last fall at the Carlisle state
    forest. It was GREAT. There were a lot of people competing spread
    out over the whole day. The Club made quite a bit and everyone had
    a lot of fun. My vote is for a hunter pace. I am usually a show
    horse person and show hunters all year around. The idea of a
    pace event in the Spring is WONDERFUL. We did 3 of them this year
    and my "show" horse loved it.

    Please keep my up to date. I'll be leaving DEC on Friday to finish
    my requirements for VET school. I'm applying to TUFTS in September.

    My home address is Anna Russau, 27 Dudley St., Marlboro, MA 01752 and
    would love an application to the pace event.

I know a couple of leaders in the area whose clubs do both the schooling shows
and the pace events and their feelings seem to be that the pace event is much
easier to put on and much cheaper.

As I mentioned these clubs do both; have you thought of doing the same?

Good luck and you probably get good responses and attendance no matter which
your club decides to do!

1173.8PACES ARE FUNMFGMEM::LEMIRETue Feb 06 1990 12:507
    Another hunter person who shows in Eastern Mass.
    would like to attend a pace event rather than
    a schooling show. It's fun, and you can
    bring a friend to share the fun, and none
    of the anxiety!

1173.11Will not run either...MASTIC::KATEMon Apr 02 1990 09:396
    Thanks to everyone who added their personal preference.
    Unfortunately our club president quit (who had very active
    and helpful parents) and also the club secretary left.
    This means we feel there just aren't enough bodies to run
    either type of event. Perhaps next year?
