1172.1 | Window shopping. | SMAUG::GUNN | MAILbus Conductor | Thu Feb 01 1990 01:08 | 31 |
| When I was in Munich eighteen months ago and went wandering into tack
shops both there and in Salzburg in Austria, I seem to remember not
finding anything much less expensive than in the U.S. I brought back a
tack catalogue but it doesn't have prices in it. I just looked through
the German riding magazines I bought at the time and, although I found
a Kiefer advertisement it also has no prices mentioned.
My command of German is sub-marginal, but looking at the small ads in
the back of one of the magazines I find on offer:
Dressursattel, schwarz (Kiefern) 2,200 DM
(this is a June 1988 Magazine and is about $1350 at today's exchange
rate)
As a point of interest other small ads included:
Dressurpferd 9j., br. Wallach, Hann., Stm. 1,68m, ideales
Damenpferde, sof. in Kl. M einsatzbereit, schicker Leistungstyp, m.
uberdurchschn. Grundgangarten, extrem leichtrittig, Preis 15 000 DM
and also a
Springpferd 9jahr. Hann. Fuchswallach Stm. 1,69m, A+L-plac.,
VB: 9 000 DM
if you enjoy the intellectual challenge of figuring out cryptic
abbreviations of German "For Sale" ads. My opinion of shopping in
general at that time was that the Germans didn't seem to go in for
anything so disorderly as price competition.
Hope this helps.

| Thank you Klaus!
I would like to know the prices of a Stuebben Sigfried VSS
(multi-purpose) saddle and a Kieffer multi-purpose saddle (I"m not sure
what the model name is on this one).
Where in Germany do you live? I have relatives near Munich, and was
going to ask them to check prices for me.

| Laura,
The Germans used to sell slightly different saddles over here than at
home. The American version of their saddles had a narrower tree than
thre European version, because in the past most Americans were riding
thorobreds and tb crosses, rather than warmbloods, whose backs tend to
be much wider and rounder. I don'y know if this is still the case, and
if you ride warmbloods than it won,t matter anyway, but you may want to
check this out before buying.

Please excuse for you had to wait so long for the informations.
That's because I work in the digital-fieldservice, and I therefore
am not in the office every day.
Besides this remote note is not always reachable for us.
Here are the informations you need:
- Stuebben Siegfried 1295.00DM
- Kieffer Aachen 1295.00DM
Kieffer Muenchen 1325.00DM
The prices include 14% add-on taxe , there should be a way to get
this out.
To your further questions,
I live near Stuttgart, that's about 200 km north of Munich.
I know Munich a little, because there is a trainingscentre
of digital and the headquarter of digital Germany.
How do you like Munich?
Klaus

| Thank you, Klaus. Based on the current exchange rate, I think the
prices in Germany are a little cheaper. But I don't know if the models
sold in Germany are exactly the same as the ones sold here and I don't
know how much it would cost to import the saddle to the U.S.
I will eventually end up buying a saddle in the U.S., but next time I'm
in Germany I will visit the tack stores to see what's available.
