I've been dissappointed with Victory Pass, too. If I know what I
want, I call the Saddlebrook Tack Shop in Westmorland, NH and order it.
I've had excellant luck with them, they appear to be in direct competition
with Dover, so anything you find at Dover you like, call Saddlebrook!

P.S. I am very careful what I mail order from State Line.

| I have had very good luck with state line, both from their mail order
and an occasional visit. I think their prices are very competitive,
and most of the time lower.
I was looking for a special bit for barrel racing (hack-a-bit) and
state line never seemed to have it, and it would take months to order it
from them. Well I tried Allies in RI, Everyone swore they had great
western tack and good prices. I almost had heart failure when I saw
the price of the bit ---- $90. and it didn't even had a snaffle bit,
it had a chain for a bit - no thanks! I ended up getting it @ state
line for $58. English curb chains were $7.00, Tom thumb bit was $35.
girth cover $10. I was able to get this stuff - Identical at either
State line or Saddle shed in Grafton Ma for almost half the price.
I like the saddle shed in grafton, if your a good customer, they'll
take care of you.

1111.3 | IMHO | CIMNET::BUSHMAN | | Thu Nov 02 1989 09:02 | 15 |
| I was just at State Line on Tuesday, so prices & quality are fresh in
my mind... I bought selectively, and thought I got some good deals,
BUT I must admit their quality is NOT as good on a lot of things. I
picked up a web lunge line which was $11 - not bad, but it was a little
thinner, and the sewing and leather trim were a little cheesier than
I've seen other places. To me it didn't matter that much, but I feel
I paid less because I got something a little less nice.
I made the analogy to the person I was with, that shopping at State Line
was like shopping at K-Mart: If you are purchasing a brand name, you may
get a good deal, otherwise you are buying something of a little lower
quality at a discount price - if you know what you need it for, and what
you are trading off in price, then you can decide whether it's worth it
to you...

| And sometimes you don't have to shop very far. I've been
driving to the Saddle Shed for ages to buy my Clovite because
I thought that was where I got the best deal - even better
than State Line without the extra drive. Then I checked it
in the Lancaster UCF - almost $5.00 cheaper and much closer.
So much for shopping around.

1111.6 | I had troubles with Saddle Shed...Tom | LUDWIG::ROCK | | Thu Nov 02 1989 15:16 | 40 |
| Be carefull of Saddle Shed. I use to shop there alot....there stuff
is usually good quality and the prices were not to much higher then
State Line.
But a few years ago, my husband bought a breast plate for me at
Saddle Shed. It was over 100.00 and was not specially ordered. He
took it right out of their regular stock. Well he bought it for
me for my birthday. I get it a week later and it was so small that
I could just barely get it onto my cob sized mare. I took it back
and Margo"s husband Tom gave me a had time about returning it. He
said it was special ordered...ya....there were two more when I went
and looked hanging there for sale. My husband is into cars and would
never order specially anything for my horses unless i gave him all
the details and just about order it myself. He bought it as a gift.
It had silver on it to match my show saddle.
Well Tom refussed me a cash refund when the slip was only two weeks
only on the purchase date. He also refussed when he finally gave
me a credit slip to give me a full refund. He kept the sales tax
and said something about they had already sent it in to the goverment.
Well that was the last straw....I had other problems with him in
the past and rood (spelling) remarks. Mind you, he never said BOO
if Margo was there.
I like Margo and if I knew he was not going to be there at all I
would go shopping there again. But not when he makes his only refund
rules as he goes.....
