964.0. "Buena Vista Plantation Saddle???" by NRADM::CONGER (What's ONE more cat????) Thu Jun 01 1989 12:39

I checked keywords and topic listing, and read all the
saddle notes, but did not find anything about a Plantation
Saddle. Anyone know anything about this? The reason why I'm
so curious is because I will be bringing home my Tennessee
Walker on saturday and don't have a saddle yet. I'm wondering
if this might be what I will want as the breed was used on
plantations to begin with. (makes sense, right?)

As a owner of a Walker I can tell you what me and my Walker buddys
are using. Of the group of us 4 are using cutback show saddles,(known
as Fox Lane style) 1 is riding Western, 1 is using an Australian
Stock saddle, and I use a Dressage saddle. I have discovered that
Buena Vista saddles are hard to find and very expensive. There is
a note in this conference about Tenn. Walkers, I would love to hear
about your new "baby" there..Bloodlines etc.

I did speak to the girl selling the plantation saddle,
and decided not to get it. She described it as a cross
between a cavalry saddle and an australian saddle. I
suppose the price she was asking was pretty good - $275
and only used a half dozen times (horse got a bowed tendon).
I think I'm going to get a used cutback, and save up for
    	an Australian.

Sandy, I'd be interested to know what kinds of bits you
and your friends are using, also the type of shoeing you're
having done. I can't seem to find anyone around here that
can help me much on this...

    	Thanks,
    	Sherry

I just purchased a Buena Vista Plantation Saddle. I got it at
Parade Acres Tack Shop in Concord, N.H. Have had it for about
a week and have used it 5 times. It's just great. I've done
most of my riding western and am taking lessons for English and
this saddle makes a great transition. I also just purchased a
Saddlebred who had been shown alot and the saddle fits perfectly.
By the way it wasn't all that expensive.....
