| I have a contract approved by lawyers with the sole intent of releasing
you from liability in case of an accident. However, please be aware
that no contract will keep you from being sued. All that a contract
does for you is stated that the other person is aware of the hazards
of being around horses and states they agree not to sue if injured.
It does provide you with something to go into court with to help
your case and with luck they won't get judgement. Some liability
insurance would be a good idea if you can afford it. However, it
is somewhat expensive. Don't stipulate in the contract that the
waiver of liability is for just when she is riding. It should cover
anytime she is near your property. She could get hurt cleaning
stalls or feeding for example. Good luck. We are unfortunately
in a sue happy society brought on by these lousy insurance companies.
Your best bet is to get to know the person and spend time with them
and your horse.
I may sound alittle too cautious but I have been hearing many horror
stories from people who are getting out of the boarding and rental
business because of lawsuits. There are so many horse farms for
sale in New Hampshire right now it would make your head swim.
