Try calling Blue Chip Horse Transportation. 1-800/826-4636. They
are well known and reputable. I had a friend use them to bring up
a horse from Virginia. Modern trucks and trailers.

    Hi,

I just started riding my friends Appy Mare in Billerica. I am dying to
take her to a show. Does anyone live around there that would consider
trailering her for me? I do not have a trailer and I have to show, I'm
going crazy!! If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Hi Andrea,

If you have a particular show in mind let me know, I have trailered
people around this area at times and would consider it depending
on when/where you wish to go, and providing the horse is an easy
loader/traveler. You could also try Barbara Lowes in Amesbury, she
hauls some, as well as Charlie Lane out of Rockport (but he's pretty
expensive, particularly for just one horse). Good luck, I know what
a pain it can be to get a ride (which explains why I bought my own! :-)

157.8It's the old "Liability" issue.....BOOVX2::MANDILEWed Apr 10 1991 10:557
Don't be surprised if you find it hard to get a ride.....
I bought my own trailer because it was so difficult.
I've only had it three weeks, and I have already trailered
    a horse for someone!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Hi,
My name is Judi Babbit and I have just found the notes files on
equitation. I am not real sure on how to use them yet. I have recently
moved to Groton MA. My sister has bought an old farm house with eight
acres of land. I have always loved horses and I have owned a couple of
horses in the past. I have never had any lessons, I have been riding
for over ten years for fun. I have boarded my horses in the small barns
in the Chelmsford/Westford area. When my sister bought the farm I decided to
move in and get another horse. I was given a 1/2 morgan and 1/2 standard
bred cross in April. Rusty is about 15 and 14.2 hands. He is very sweet
and gentle. I was looking for people in the Groton area to ride with.
I ride western and trails. Although he Rusty has beeen ridden and shown
Engligh before. There are some great trails in the Groton, Mass area.
I am also looking for someone else to help me ride and care for my horse.
Since I am working and also in school for one more year, I do not get to
ride as much as I would like. My horse is starting to get board and is
chewing on the fence so I am looking for some help in entertaining him.
This is the only bad habit Rusty has. He picked it up from my girlfriend
horse when we spent a week at her house. I may also be interested in
getting Rusty a companion. Does anyone know of anyplace that rents out
trailers? I have a camp in the white mountains and I am interested in
taking Rusty with me for my vacation in August, if I can find a trailer.
Please call or write to me if anyone is interested in riding or knows of
any companiions for my pal. My node is ASABET::BABBIT.

               Possible trailoring for my horse

I need to get a ride for my newly bought horse. He is housed in Carlise
Mass. I need to get him to Merrimack N.H. and was wondering if anyone
is possibly coming this way north this weekend. Possibly on Saturday. I
would be forever greatful if you would respond if coming this way.
Thank You for your time and trouble of responding.

Need a trailer ride from Amesbury Ma to Berlin Ma. I called Diane
Bear she said she would do it if her truck is in working order.
(she just bought a new one and the lights are not all hooked up yet)

If she can not do it, is there anyone else out there who could do it
this Saturday (1/9/93) I was told the horse trailers great.. when we
vet-check on on 1/6 I will ask to see him load.

    Trailoring - The going rate

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the going rate is for
    trailoring a horse.

I just got my trailor all fixed up and thought that I might do some
    trailoring on the side.

Do you charge from when you pick up the horse and drop it off, of
when you leave your house, pick up horse, and drop it off.

If trailoring is to a show and you need to stay for the day, is there
    a flat rate.

Any info on this will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Brenda

Before you set your rate, find out how much insurance to cover you
hauling other peoples' horses will be.

My insurance is such that occasional hauling (like when I have an
extra space going to a horse or to the clinic) I am covered without
extra payments. However, if I were to do this on a regular basis,
the cost would be considerably more.

Out here, the last I knew the going rate was $1.00/mile from start
    to destination.

    Brenda,

Have you given this idea serious consideration from all aspects, and
are you sure you want to do it? You say you just got your trailer
all fixed up - how are you going to feel when you haul a difficult
horse who does damage to it? Are you going to charge extra for
reluctant and difficult loaders? Did you check with your insurance
company to see if you are protected should there be an accident/injury
to the horse? I have done it a few times a few years ago, but will do
so now only for friends and then only if the horse is an easy loader
and rides without a problem - if the horse has to be pushed to get in
my trailer, he doesn't GO in. I ask that friends only pay my gas money.
I have only had only one bad experience in which a young stud colt broke
the stallion guard off (the owner's willingly paid to have it rewelded on),
but much worse can and does happen.

As for prices, this past spring I moved a 'refuge' for a local rescue
league (I couldn't say no to that one, the horse needed immediate
help). I was paid $35 to move the horse approximately 10 miles, one
way ... i was told that's the current average rate.

Still, check with your insurance company - you may be better protected
if you charge *only* for gas money, with no profit ... something about
not accepting money for a service and then failing to provide it
    properly, blah blah, etc.

Good luck, whatever you end up doing!

157.19Thanks for inputs!LEDDEV::BAERTue Sep 12 1995 09:167
Thanks for the inputs, I will contact my insurance company and look
into this further, it is just a thought at the moment. I probably will
just do it for favors, paying for gas would surfice.

    Thanks
    Brenda

I am entered into a futurity in Northampton on May 10 - 12. I have a 2yr. old Palomino Quarter Horse that
has been doing very well for me. We show on Sat. and Sun so I would like to get a ride there on Friday
afternoon and have a ride home on Sunday night. I am still in school and cannot afford a big trailering
bill but need a ride to this show. My horse is very quiet and easy to get along with and trailers and loads
well. Any help would be very much appreciated!!
Thank You very Much,
