94.0. "Stallions & Stud fees" by WEDOIT::NANCY () Tue Feb 07 1989 16:40

With breeding season soon upon us, I thought it would be a good
time to discuss stud fees and share information with fellow noters
    on stallions that you like.

    Let's share:

    1. Bargin stud fees....
    2. Stallions' best traits... conformation
    3. Stallion faults...avoid breeding
    4. Stud farm reputations - mare care
    5. Incentive programs offered for stallions (discounts)
    6. Stallion news etc. where they're standing this year.

Please comment on anything you think the perspective breeder should
    know about a particular stallion.

94.1AAF Kadet (Arabian) WEDOIT::NANCYTue Feb 07 1989 17:0528

    	Arabian lovers.........

AAF KADET (U.S. National Champion Futurity Stallion)

He is a breeders bargin at only $2500.00 (standing in Apple
Springs,Texas). He has no leg faults, you can't fault his back, his
hips and hind quarters are flawlesss, he is very typey, and has
a very well laid back shoulder. When Mr. Gucci saw him he commented
on how long his neck is! He has a nice short triangular head. His
    ears are beautiful....

His breeders are planning on showing him in the Stallion class in
1990. This year he is going to concentrate on breeding and get his
first foal crop on the ground. They are also considering starting
an incentive program for his foals called the "Kadet Challenge".

I am shipping a filly down to him this week to be bred. I think
he is a bargain because of his conformation, athletic ability
(English pleasure potential) , his potential to become a National
Champion Stallion, and his strong breeding potential. I think his
foals will have strong leg conformation, breed type, and athletic
    ability.

I am looking forward to this foal!

94.2Back Bey - Arab Stallion at StudCURIE::GCOOKWed Feb 08 1989 10:0848
    BACK BEY
(Bay-El-Bey++ X FTL Wing Song by *Fortel)
(This pedigree is very similar to that of the 1987 National
Champion Mare, the impossibly beautiful Forteyna, who was
purchased by Paolo Gucci after she was named National Champion)

Stud fee: $1,500 for purebreds; $750 other breeds and crosses

Back Bey has beautiful straight legs, which he consistently passes
to his foals -- I don't think any of his babies has anything but
gorgeous legs. My own mare does NOT have perfect front legs, but
all three of her fillies by Bey DOES!

He also has an extremely elegant front end (beautiful laid back
shoulder and a long neck, set on just right. This also gets passed
    on.

If you need to improve length and strength of hind end (one of my
personal "things"), this is the place to come. Bey has a hip and
    croup built to work.

As for personality and disposition, I know every Arabian stallion
owner tells you that their stallion is the sweetest and best in
the breed, but that can't be because mine is! I would trust him
with a baby in his stall.

Back Bey is home with me in Harvard, Mass. I would encourage anyone
thinking of breeding a mare this year to come and look at him.

And, by the way, he also has a virtually perfect show record - he
was a Futurity Halter Champion as a three-year-old, a Pleasure Driving
Champion and a four-year-old, and an open halter winner as a
    Five-year-old.

I'm starting to ride my oldest Back Bey filly right now and I couldn't
be happier with her attitude and aptitude!

I have copies of a very extensive pedigree (which includes the
accomplishments of his family) done for him by Arlene Magid, an
editor at the Arabian Horse Times magazine which I would be happy
    to send anyone interested.

94.3Top Quality Arab StallionCHOWDA::HGORDONTue Feb 14 1989 15:2231
Standing at stud - RR MUSIC MAN - 6 yr. old, solid bay, 15.1 hand,
multi-champion in halter and performance, Arabian stallion.

Music Man has been shown extensively on the east coast and has been
Junior and Senior Halter Champion several times. In addition he
has been Champion Junior English Pleasure Horse at the AHANE show
among others. He is qualified at the regional and national level
for both halter and performance. He will be shown this year at
the regionals and will got to the nationalsd in 1990 when that show
    returns to Kentucky.
Music Man stands at Indian Head Stables in Uxbridge , Mass. at the
1989 introductory fee of $750.00. The facilities there include
a Vet with a speciality in equine reproduction on the premises.

Music Man has been blessed with a loving disposition and passes
this disposition on to his foals. He is a very correct horse with
a wonderful length of neck and a level top-line. He has a strong
back-end with good depth of hip.
He is an excellent representative of the Ferzon/Azraff cross which
boasts such National Champions as GAI Parada, Gai Seance, Gai
Florada(half-brother to Musuc Man). Music Man has four of the "magic"
crosses Ferzon sons an Azraff daughters or vice versa. What that
means for a breeding stallion is that due to this line-breeding Music
Man will pass on those traits he exhibits as his genotype is based
    on horses of similar backgrounds.
I would be happy to send his pedigree and a video tape. Then come
see him and decide for yourself. We'd be happy to show him to you. We
are small breeders committed to excellence and hope to support others
    like ourselves.

This may be totaly off of the subject started here but.............

My husband and I now know that 2 of our mares are in foal. The
stallion owner usually gives the breeding certificate when the mare
foals. He says he likes to go see the foal first. Anyway, what is the
legal way the certificates are to be handled?

Our problem it that we are moving to Idaho in August and I don't think
the stallion owner will be willing to go all the way out there just to
bring the certificate. We were going to ask him for the certificate
before we left. (His character is questionable also) Can he legaly
withhold the certificate untill the foal is born.

ps. these horses are AQHA registered animals.

94.10Get a Rule Book from the Breed RegistryINGOT::ROBERTSThu May 13 1993 14:3025
Again, "legal" only enters into it in the sense of a written, or
implied contract. There's often no laws specific to horse-breeding
operations. With Thoroughbreds, the stallion owner must give a
"certiicate" of sorts to the mare owner in order for the foals to be
registered. This is done as a matter of course, but can be withheld as
a method of making someone come up with the stud fee, if they have not
already paid it. If the mare is bred with an arrangement where the
stud fee is paid at the birth of the foal, then the stallion owner has
no leverage other than this in making sure s/he actually can get the
money. Have you folks already paid the stud fee? If so, then you
should find out what the breed registry rules require of the stallion
owner. My guess would be that if the fee is paid, then the stallion
owner owes you the right to register the foals. By the way, what's
with the "until he sees them" routine? It's not up to him whether or
not the foals can be registered, right? I think you mentioned that
your mares are Thoroughbreds, and the stallion is a quarter horse? So
the foals would be eligible to be Appendix registered. I'm not *real*
familiar with QH Appendix registration requirements, so maybe someone
can elaborate on this, but my understanding is that a foal can be
registered if one of the parents is a registered quarterhorse, but
someone from the breed registry has to visually approve the animal.
Or is he actually the person who does this inspection, i.e. he's
authorized by the AQHA to inspect appendix registered horses?

    -ellie
94.11Paid in full.SWAM2::MASSEY_VIIt's all in the cueThu May 13 1993 15:2920
    Ellie,

One mare is TB the other is QH. For the TB's foal will be registered
in the appendix regrestry. The foal will be registered in the AQHA
once it gets enough points. The stallion's ower going to see the foals
is his idea and I have no idea why he does it. Maybe to make the
owners an offer. We have paid the stud fees in full. We paid for 3
breedings and only two mares are in foal so in addition to asking for
the certificates we are also going to ask for the refund of the third
breeding. We don't expect to get it back tho. If he does give us a
hard time about either situation we will write to the AQHA and let them
know of his business practices. I hate to do that because the stallion
does produce some good stock but the owner isn't running the business
correctly. We are going to go see him this weekend and I will enter a
    report on Monday.

    Me again!

I just called the AQHA. They say the whole agreement is between us and
the stallion owner. There is nothing legal they can do about it but
they will take a report now of the situation and if when the foals drop
we cannot find the stallion owner for the certificate, they will locate
him. They still can't guarentee that we will be able to register the
    foals.

Going to Bosie in August I hope. I am contracted through Pinkerton so
