354.0. "Getting Ready to Show" by USADEC::GILL () Fri Jul 01 1988 10:38
Has anyone had the pleasure of introducing a young horse to an indoor
show? What are some of the joys awaiting me when I do so? My gelding
will be attending the Arabian All Gelding show in Springfield in
August and it will be indoors. He has never shown indoors before.
Also, he will be stabled with a friends trainers showstring so
he will be in the main barn with all the lights, noise etc. Just
how much is this going to make him unglue? I am going to take him
to an indoor arena next week in Mendon for lessons and to get him
used to the idea of riding around in one, is this enough preparation?
Some of you have young guys competing, Bob, how do you prepare the
youngsters for their debut?

| Stephanie...
As far as the youngsters are concerned, we try to get them into
the Colliseum before the show starts and just walk them around.
Sometimes they have "something" in the center. Not sure what they
are going to do with this show as this is the first one. Next year
I hope to show my "butterball" at it.
No matter what you do they are usually excited....there is just
so much to see.
GOOD LUCK
