One of the catalogs that I find very useful is Wholesale

Time. Toll free numbers U.S. 1-800-435-6940, Ill. 1-800-892-6996.

    <MEDICAL SUPPLIES>

As a point of interest, I recently attended a riding club meeting
where a vet was giving a talk on an emergency medical kit for
your horse. She said that to clean a cut or hole ordinary surgical
scrub (the type doctor's use on their hands) is excellent for the
job and is much cheaper than some of the preparations on the market.
It cleans thoroughly, and as long as the area is rinsed with clean
water after is safe to the animal. The beauty of this is that you
can buy it from pharmacies in large containers and transfer it to
a smaller bottle to be kept at the stable. It also has the advantage
that your own hands are sterile when tending a wound.

She also extolled the virtues of animal lintex. Although I am not
sure this is available outside the UK.
583.2PARRY HARNESS AND TACKLAUREL::REMILLARDThu Apr 06 1989 16:1339

One of the catalogs I order from is one from PARRY HARNESS AND
TACK (altho they no longer make harnesses ;^}!!)

They can custom design your tack... I had a custom made
halter-bridle made for my cridder. They work with leather and
    	alot with Bioplastic (Biothane).

Some of the things that they offer are:

Cantle bags - saddle bags - saddle packs - "sponge on a roap"
Water sacks - seat savers - water bottles - cushioned stirrup
pads (they are great!) - Grain sacks (very handy! Fit 50lbs
and water repellent cordura with zipper and strong nylon
handles - they have one that holds a bale of hay with handles
too - breastplates (leather or bioplastic) - cavison headstalls
western headstalls too - and miscellaneous other goodies..

Bonnie and Judy Parry are both super folks. I have bought from
them for a number of years now and I have never even seen anything
of poor quality. A number of times I have just called them
with an idea of something that I needed and they came up with
what I needed or better... They really use their horses and
the equipment that they sell - so they know if something is
    	gonna work well or not.

They also do alot of Bio english headstalls that are sold in
various tack shops around the northeast.

    	I would highly recommend them..

Capriole has great T-shirts and sweatshirts for racing fans. They are
supposed to come out with a catalog, but don't have one yet, so I don't
know what else they carry. The shirts have "portraits" of famous race
horses (they have them designed by artists and then printed on the
shirts). The one of Secretariat shows him running straight at you. My
husband and I both have a Secretariat T-shirt and really like them. He
also has one of Man O' War, but it's not quite as impressive as the
Secretariat one. Both have the horse's pedigree on it, but I'm not
sure if they all do or not. Here's a list of the horses you can get:

    	Secretariat
    	Man O' War
    	Citation
    	Seattle Slew
    	Native Dancer
    	Seabiscuit

Ruffian is in design now and should be available in a few weeks.

    Prices are: T-shirts - $21, Sweatshirts - $31
    They take credit cards.

You can order by calling Capriole, Inc. at 703-687-LEAP(5327) or

You can order Bute from the Rockford Vet Wholesale catalog by sending
them a prescription from your vet with the order. They are very prompt
about shipping and usually have my order to me here in Colorado in 3-5
days. They also have some of the best prices anywhere on horse
medications and I usually get all of my wormer through them.

583.21Pony & Kid sized gearDECWET::JDADDAMIOMontar con orgullo!Mon Feb 03 1992 19:1119
Are any of you having trouble finding tack, equipment or clothing for ponies &
kids? I saw an ad in a recent Chronicle for a tack shop which says it carries
a full line of pony and kid sized gear.

It was a cute ad. Shows a kid jumping his(? looks like a little boy but I'm
not sure) pony. The kid's wearing cowboy boots w/ pants tucked in the tops,
an oversized Caliente-style jockey helmet which is slipping down over his
eyes and a T-shirt. The pony is resplendent in its flat saddle and a
side-check made out of hay strings!

Ad says to call for their brochure

In the Feb 1992 Dressage & CT, I found another pony & kid specialty
catalog. This time it's Millers! They're finally getting smart. they've
got a cLub, newsletter & US Pony CLub association. Where were they when
    I was a kid?

    "PONY AND CHILD CATALOG
Miller's is pleased and excited to introduce their latest most
informative and most creative catalog to date. "The Small World of
Ponies N' Kids" offers the largest range of clothing for kids 4 to 17
years old and equipment for small, medium and large ponies. Included
are helpful hints for riding and fitting equipment and beautiful
artwork by world-renowned horsemen and equestrian artist Ronnie Mutch.

The catalog includes Miller's new "Small World of Riding" club for
children. Members will receive a member lapel pin, a personalized
membership card and a Gran Prix Rider poster, and Miller's "Pony Pals"
newsletter 4 times per year. "Pony Pals" features pony news, expert
"pony pointers" and contest in which members write stories or poems
about their riding experiences. Lucky members may have their stories or
photos appear in "Pony Pals" or other Miller's publications, for which
they will win a bonus prize.

Timed with the release of Miller's "Small World of Riding", Miller's
is proud to announce that they are now the official saddler to the US
    Pony CLubs."

583.24Source for Brown Field Boots?ESCROW::ROBERTSWed Oct 14 1992 15:266
Anyone know where to get brown field boots? I don't want to go for
custom made boots, but all the ones I see are black. I did see some in
brown in a Chick's catalog, but I was told they had been discontinued
and shouldn't have been in there, when I called to order.

583.25Call EnglandDELNI::BUSHMANThu Oct 15 1992 09:028
Europe. Seriously, you can call England for a catalog order as easily
as Ohio... They take happily Mastercard/Visa. When I was shopping for
black field boots in London last summer they thought I was totally odd,
since their field boots are all brown, and they don't carry black!
Perhaps some of the English noters have a favorite catalog supply house
over there, and I'll bring in the phone # for some shops tomorrow.

Good idea! As it happens, I thing I have a catalog or two from when I

583.27Giddens' of LondonDELNI::BUSHMANFri Oct 16 1992 09:0812
I stopped in to Giddens in London (among 4-5 other tack shops across
England) last summer and they were very used to have phone orders from
the US and other countries. They have a nice color (colour!) catalog
and specifically show the "Burlington Field Boot" - their only field
boot - and it's brown. Normally the price would include VAT (like sales
tax), but they don't charge it for exports, so they use the same
money to cover shipping. So it's really not "expensive" to mail.

Giddens' number is 734-2788. If you call at about 6:30am EST, it's
11:30am there, and your call is not too expensive. Obviously, you
need the country code (44) and so forth... I have to look it up in the
front of the phone book everytime.

re: Giddens

I bought my jumping saddle via mail-order from them! They are very
nice to do business with, however, when ordering MAKE SURE you find out
if the item you want is backordered... I neglected to do so and ended up
having a far longer wait than I anticipated. (However, I really enjoy
my saddle //though *some* people consider it 'greased lightening'! ;-)// )

583.32Looking for a new supplierDECWET::JDADDAMIOSnow is just a 4 letter word!Wed Nov 18 1992 14:1836
We've been using Foster & Smith for all our dewormers and vaccines for several
years but I think they just lost a customer. Their current catalog offers
Zimectrin and Eqvalan brands of ivermectin dewormers for $12.99 per tube. Their
previous catalog, which is only 2-3 months old, listed the prices at $8.99!
I called to check that it wasn't a mistake. It wasn't! That's a price increase
of 45% or about 10 times the inflation rate!!!!!! Besides that they charge at
least $4.95 for shipping. We usually order 6 tubes at a time and they charge us
$6.95 shipping on an order that size.

Not a very attractive price when you consider I can buy them from my local vet
for $11 including the oppressive 8.2% WA state sales tax!!!! So, I called
7 other mail order places that have been sending us catalogs. The places I
called and asked for a price including S&H were:
Vet Express Inc $9.45 + $5.95 S&H on 6 tubes
Econovet $9.49 + $6.95 S&H on 6 tubes
American Livestock Supply $9.49 + $4 S&H on 6 tubes
Bloodline Vet Supply $9.49 with FREE S&H on orders over $50
K V Vet Supply $9.49 with FREE S&H on orders over $50
Omaha Vaccine $9.49 with FREE S&H on orders over $50
Valley Vet Supply $9.49 with FREE S&H on orders over $50

To save you doing the arithmetic, 6 tubes would cost $56.94 so I can get free
shipping from the last 4 places. The S&H charges from the other places would
add between 67 and $1.16 to the cost of each tube. So, I have 2 questions.
	1) does anybody have a cheaper source?
	2) does anybody have any experience with any of these suppliers?

We used to order from Omaha Vaccine. Never found anything wrong with their
products or service but they don't carry everything we use for either the dogs
or the horses. That's why we had been using Foster and Smith. They carry
EVERYTHING and had very competitive prices when we first started
ordering from them. Feel free to send mail if you have a negative opinion that
you don't want to post.

Thanks
John

So, Foster & Smith may just be one of the first to be affected by the new
prices and the other catalogs will have to increase their price when
their stock runs out. It doesn't make sense that ANY manufacturer would
try to raise their prices 45% in one shot, especially during a recession.
Guess we'll just have to wait and see.......

I just got a note off the internet and promptly lost it, but the
gist of it was that apparently Phelan's is no more. They had a
big going out of business sale a few weeks ago. Just in case anyone
has sent an order or was thinking of it...I thought you might like
to know this. They haven't been offering much horsey stuff anymore
lately, mostly overpriced clothing, so not such a great loss...
