Okay, all you QH folks out there (or anyone else for that
matter),
What does the term 'Track Index' mean? My horse's sire has a QH
Track Index of 82. In layman's terms, what does this mean?

In Quarter running horses the breed has established a base speed
in seconds for the different lenghts that the races are run at.
Say 1/4 mile in 20 seconds flat. A horse that runs the 1/4 mile
in this time is said to have a speed index of 100. Horses that
run the 1/4 mile faster have a speed index of 100+ and horses that
run slower have a speed index of 99 or less. It actually is a per
cent of the standard. I have seen some horse that have a speed
index of 105 and better. The AQHA rule book lists the standards
for all of the distances. I can bring the rule book in and list
them if you are interested.
