When I was younger, I rode quite often and began showing.
Unfortunately, I had to give it up for many years. Now I'm trying
to get back into riding and my long term goal is to show again.
However, I have this problem. I am lost in the "show lingo" - different
classes, levels, events, etc.... I would like to find a book which
reviews all that stuff so that I can understand what I will be up
against.
If anyone has any "helpful hints" on where to get that information,
it would be much appreciated...

It probably depends more on what type of showing you want to do
but you can get lots of information on what is expected for a few
breeds in the AHSA rule book. Maybe someone out there has a back
issue that they wouldn't mind parting with. You may also pick up
some of the lingo and slang by hanging around on the rail with the
`Rail Rats'. (No offense meant since when I'm not an exhibitor
or groom, I'm a confirmed Rail Rat)

I just bought "From the Center of the Ring" a few days ago. It looked
like a good book and the picture on the cover convinced me. The horse
and rider are from Bara Farms, which is about twenty miles south of
Colorado Springs (which is where I'm located).
It has lots of information about the different kind of showing you can
do, the different tack and clothing you use, how to do basic grooming,
feeding, etc. It's mainly an "introduction to everything" book, and I
think it was worth $9.95.
