270.0. "Pickup truck caps" by ZEPPO::FOX () Tue May 12 1987 11:57

    Okay, now that everyone has been so helpful with information on
    trucks and trailers, now I'm going to ask about something else,
    pickup caps! The cap that I have been using is about 9 years old,
    white fiberglass (Olympic) with screens and sliding side windows.
    All in all, it is a very nice cap but I am just curious about new
    ones. Where are good places to look in the Bedford MA area, pros
    and cons of different fiberglass and other caps, etc. Also, prices
    - I can't believe how expensive they seem to be now!

    Thanks in advance for any info,

    Linda

270.1Try a pop-up camper that slides inNEWVAX::AIKENI love Crabbet Arabians! 301-867-1584Wed May 13 1987 11:0011
    Have you ever seen the caps that are pop-up campers which slide
    into the truck bed? It's a super idea! Has all the amenities of
    a tag-along pop-up -- sleeping accommodations for 4-6, a stove,
    sink, table, cabinets. It can be left up, without the sides open,
    for use during the day; at night, open the sides to open the sleeper
    part. The cost is about $900-$1,000. I think it's worth it, if
    you go to shows a lot, to avoid hotel bills. Unfortunately, I don't
    remember the name of the company that makes them. An RV center
    should know.

270.2Thanks for the suggestionZEPPO::FOXWed May 13 1987 14:1310
    Merrie, the pop-up caps are a nice idea but I either sleep in my
    truck or I get a real cheap room! I can see why that would be super,
    however I really just need something that will 1) be watertight,
    2) cover anything I may want to carry around (like my tack boxes,
    etc) and 3) will look nice and not obscure my vision too much!

    Thanks,

270.3COBRA TOPS ARE TOPSUSWAV1::GREYNOLDSPAINTS-SPORTS MODEL OF HORSESThu May 14 1987 10:577
    Linda,on my 85 F-150 4X4 I got a COBRA (it came white an the dealer
    did a super job w/painting it to match the dk.blue of the truck),I
    like the cobra for several reasons,lots of glass(tempered not
    plexiglass),sliding bus type side windows,top windows,and the best
    reason is the top pitches rearward ,it definitly adds more entrance
    room.Cost however was around $800.I bought it just before leaving
    Va. and got a lot of remaining stuff loaded in to it. gary
270.4NorthlanderMURPHY::DZEKEVICHThu May 28 1987 17:117
    Try Northlander in Fitchburg. They make a lot of cap styles. High
    ones, ones flush with the cab top, different window styles and they
    are cheaper than the dealer fiberglass caps.

    Good luck,
    Joe

270.5bought a century!ZEPPO::FOXFri May 29 1987 13:358
    thanks for the suggestions! i ended up buying a century cap from
    yankee custom cap in tewksbury. the price seemed reasonable, the
    color matches exactly, i can sweep it out without banging my head,
    the visibility is good and i needed it kinda in a hurry so....

    anyway, thanks for the suggestions and all!
