197.0. "Dressage in Southern Vermont" by BOTTLE::MONTVILLE (Sharon Montville) Mon Jan 19 1987 11:34

    Does anyone know anything about the "horse scene" in southern Vermont?
    Specifically, any good dressage instructors in the area. My husband
    has a business opportunity in Wilmington, which is west of Brattleboro.
    Unfortunately, this is nowhere near any DEC plants; it seems like
    the only place in the East that isn't near a DEC plant. It seemed
    like the "boonies" to me, although I'm sure Colorado must seem like
    that to many of the readers of this notesfile. Since it isn't near
    a DEC plant, I'm not sure anyone will have any info on this area
    but it's worth a try... and I better get it now, before we move...
    IF we move, that is definitely open to debate!

    Thanks.

197.1Plenty, will get a listCARLIN::FOXMon Jan 19 1987 14:138
    Well, if you decide to come to this area, welcome! There are a few
    dressage instructors in Vermont and I'll try to get a list of names
    and addresses from the NEDA rule book (New England Dressage
    Association) so you can maybe contact some or whatever you had planned.
    Please give me a day or 2 (I am sometimes forgetful!)

    Linda

197.2ThanksBOTTLE::MONTVILLESharon MontvilleMon Jan 19 1987 17:049
    Thanks Linda, that sounds encouraging. I am trying to find the
    "silver lining" in this situation. Actually, when I think about
    it, we could probably afford more land if we make the move. And
    the pastures are a lot greener in Vermont than they are in Colorado.
    This will probably take months to resolve, so there's no rush on
    the list of instructors. Thanks again, I feel better now. Maybe
    it's not so isolated as I thought.

197.3Beautiful state of VermontCARLIN::FOXMon Jan 19 1987 17:1010
    Sharon, take heart, there are even some dressage shows and events
    held in the Green Mountain state! Also, it is a very pretty state!

    I'll get some more info as soon as I can. As a matter of fact, if
    you are planning any trips to the New England area during the summer,
    let a New England noter know and maybe we can come up with some
    shows for you to go to!

197.4IT'S A GREAT PLACE TO HORSE AROUNDCSCMA::MCCLUREWed Jan 21 1987 13:3112

    Just a quickie word of comfort(?). So. Vermont is a great spot
    for "horsin' around". Did it for years myself. My info is
    definitely out-dated, but if you can't find anyone to help
    you get acquainted once you are there, call my sister in Putney
    ( a bit north of Brattleboro) at 802-722-4568. I think she
    knows everyone who has any animals over 12 inches tall. She
    also worked with the Putney School Riding program, and they seem
    to have contacts with everyone.

197.5Things look brighterBOTTLE::MONTVILLESharon MontvilleThu Jan 22 1987 19:127
    Thanks Diana, that phone number could come in real handy if we move.
    I'm beginning to get the feeling that a move to Vermont would not
    be all negative! From the horse standpoint, it seems to have
    possibilities. Now, if only I could work something out concerning
    my career... but that's another story.

    This is just a short list but there are plenty in the area!

    There are also 2 dressage groups in Vermont itself, Central Vermont
    Dressage Association and Northern Vermont Dressage Association along
    with the New England Dressage Association. There are at least 2
    weekend dressage shows held in South Woodstock Vermont alone.

    Hope this helps somewhat!
