135.0. "Horsing Around" by TYCHO::FROST () Wed Sep 03 1986 16:03

	On Friday afternoon (Sep 5) there will be a farm horse competition
at the New Boston Fair. The competition starts at 3PM and will consist of
three events. In the first event a team will be required to load a log onto
a logging scoot and then to maneuver the scoot through a slalom course. In
the second event a team will be required to hitch to a single log and enter
a slalom course. In mid course a second log will added. A few gates later the
second log will be dropped off and the course completed with the original log.
The last event is similar to the second except a single horse will be used.

	I'll be there with two teams. If any of you can make it please stop
over and say hello. You can also hope for good weather. It seems we get wet
every time we go out.

	Tyke

    Rumor has it that Tyke did very well in the competition...every
    color ribbon given including Blue and a couple of Trophies!

    Aw, come on Tyke tell us about it.

135.3A good dayTYCHO::FROSTTue Sep 09 1986 15:4712
	We had a good time at New Boston and as Susan pointed out for once
we didn't get too wet. The rain started almost with the conclusion of the last
event. I actually got the harnesses stowed before the brass turned green.

	We got one first place, one second, two thirds, one fourth, and
one sixth place. We also got the best teamster and best sportsman awards.
This was the first time out for our colt who behaved very well. We placed
where we did because of my driving mistakes - his performance was better
than our standings.

    Congratulations, sounds like you had quite a good day! Give the
    Colt a carrot for his efforts!

    Congratulations, Tyke!

    Was wondering if you were going to make it to the Durham Fair, Durham,
    Ct, September 28. If so, I'd love to visit!

135.6Durham FairTYCHO::FROSTMon Sep 15 1986 14:3113
    I'd love to come down to the Durham Fair but the Deerfield Fair
    is going on at the same time (home town fair and all).

    I've been hoping all summer to find some place where we can meet.
    It's looks like the roundup will be our last chance this year.

    One weekend this winter we will be hosting a Yankee Draft Horse
    Association meeting. We'll have sleigh rides, a bonfire, and lots
    of food. Maybe you could make it up for that. Deerfield isn't so
    far from Ct.

135.7 Dodging Drafties CTOAVX::IZZOTue Sep 16 1986 16:5918
    We're not doing so good at catching up to each other, Tyke!

    When is the roundup this year? Seems to me it's usually the 2nd
    weekend in October. I have to judge on the 4th and 12th, but the
    rest of the month doesn't look too bad.

    Maybe we will come to the Yankee Draft Horse meeting (weather pending).
    To be quite honest, Mark belongs to the New England Draft Horse
    Assocation, and the first time we went to one of their meetings
    we stuck out like sore thumbs. No one even talked to us.

    Did you make it down to the Bethany Draft Horse Show? We wanted
    to go, but it poured rain and since I was battling a cold, chose
    not to. We also missed the Woodstock (CT) Fair 'cause we were in
    Indiana (missed the Indiana State Fair too). Wondered if you were
    there since it's pretty far north.
