| He'd get the same answer in either conference. ;-) I really need to update the
easynet_conferences thing for FTAM.
It is very easy to install FTAM and to get it working over RCF1006. If you want
a difficult project, you should do it over X.25.
A novice would start by reading the installation documentation. The only real
trick to it, is to remember that we require an actual address to be used in the
alias that you put in the isoapplications file. You cannot use hostnames (it's
on the wishlist).

2148.3 | Northern Telecom Switch FTAM with Digital FTAM | NEWVAX::SHAKER | | Tue Mar 18 1997 12:05 | 11 |
| Thanks for the information Scott! Where can I find the installation
documentation?
I have one more follow on question! Has anyone tried to work with
Northern Telecom switch to pick up billing records through FTAM. Would
you have any knowledge about that? Would you put me in touch with
somebody if they have already done this before.
Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure where or if the installation documentation is kept online. Maybe
Vince or Matt can comment. I would normally expect there to be a documentation
CD that you could get the info off of.

I spent a week in Kansas City a few years back doing that. As I recall, it
wasn't much of a problem. We interoperated fine with NORTEL with the exception
of a few problems using restart/recovery (we fixed our problems, I don't know if
NORTEL fixed thiers). We were running over X.25 though, so I can't comment
about how it works over RFC1006. Nothing really unusual, just get them to tell
you what psel.ssel.tsel they want, and they may require using an ap-title of
{1 3 999 1 7} - the utility we ship to add alias information to
/etc/isoapplications will prompt you for all of this info. Also be aware that
NORTEL charges extra for NBS-9 support, so unless the customer purchased it, the
ols command will not work for getting listings of directories.

| Oh, another item. We used to have a VAR that would sell customized billing
packages in conjunction with our FTAM API or high level utilities and DIGITAL
hardware. Computer Generation Inc. I don't know if they are still doing this,
but if you are interested I can try and find a contact at CGI for you.

2148.6 | Comptel integrating with a GSM switch | VFOVAX::CASOLA | Bill Casola - Digital/SI Telecom | Tue Mar 18 1997 15:33 | 13 |
| Thanks for the help Scott. I am working with Shaker on this.
The partner in this case is Comptel, a Finnish company selling
billing mediation solutions to primarily wireless customers.
The Nortel switch in question is a GSM switch, although I doubt
that would matter.
I would like to talk more about your experience offline, if
possible. Can you send me a phone number or call me at
(703)729-8900?
Thanks,
Bill
