Subject: OpenVMS May 19,1997 delta-time problem

Chris,

Here is the summary of the May 19,1997 Delta-time problem impact for
our POLYCENTER products on OpenVMS.

Products Not Impacted:

	Scheduler
	Console Manager
	Performance Advisor
	Accounting Chargeback
AssetWORKS Agent (John Lawson will confirm this later).

Products Impacted:

For the products listed below, the OpenVMS patch (ALPLIBR05_070 on
AXP, and VAXLIBR06_070 on VAX)
solves the problem. The patch, when applied, recommends a reboot. Our
products do not require another reboot.

	Performance Data Collector
	System Watchdog (Agent and Consolidator)

       P.B. Bhat

Hello,

We checked the problem of the delta-time on the PCM, Scheduler
	and Performance.

PCM and Scheduler do not have the problem.

Performance have the delta-time problem on VMS.

	The problem disappears after installing

		ALPLIBR05_070 on AXP
		VAXLIBR06_070 on VAX.

	Ella.

I'll let you know tomorrow ... After I've had a chance to study it

2409.1The problem description and its fix.ALEXWS::IGORIgor Skapinker, NSITue May 13 1997 02:2232
The OpenVMS RTL Library (LIB$) time conversion routines
have a documented restriction that limits delta-time
arguments and return values to fewer than 10,000 days. The
date 19-MAY-1997 is 10,000 days from the UNIX and C base
date of 1-JAN-1970. Any software that uses these routines
to convert UNIX time to OpenVMS time will encounter run-
time errors upon reaching this limit, unless the software
handles the errors returned from these routines. Other base
dates will encounter this 10,000 day limit at other times.

For more information adbout 19-MAY-1997 delta time problem
    turn to OpenVMS group.

As it was written in the previuos reply, Performance encounters
this problem. The following RT library patches fix it:

	ALPLIBR05_070	for AXP
	VAXLIBR06_070	for VAX.

 Regards,

	Igor Skapinker
