ref 367.3 As mentioned previously, "8 Holyoke, a Grill", is closed. "Sandrine's, a Bistro" has taken its place. The menu features Alsatian specialties including "Flammekueche" (flamm-a-kush) which is a kind of Alsatian pizza for which they have a wood-fired brick oven in the bar area. Appetizers are 6-8$, main-courses are mostly 12-20$, excellent desserts, short but well-chosen wine list. The chef is Raymond Ost formerly of the Julien at the Meridian Hotel in Boston. I believe they have valet parking shared with Upstairs at the Pudding which is next door. Also parking in the Holyoke center across the street. Highly recommended. This is one I'd like to see get plenty of business so they will stay around!

409.1 | Harvard Magazine reviews Sandrine's | MPGS::MILLS | Tue Feb 25 1997 23:01 | 16 | |
There is a review of "Sandrine's, a Bistro" in the March-April 97 issue of Harvard Magazine. It generally praised the restaurant which is named after Ost's 15 year old daughter. Of note is the Choucroute Alsacienne which is available three nights a week, the set menu (prix-fixe) comprising onion soup, rainbow trout souffle and dessert in the review and costing 26$. They thought the flammekueche was bland (I disagree). And the extensive beer list should be noted. They and my wife were disappointd in the vegetarian dish which is a fettucini with a buttery sauce and carrots and zucchini. But, overall, a very positive review! |
