| Well, geeze I'm ashamed to tell what I did compared to you guys.....
I logged 1241 for 1996 but that's just road miles. Off road and
stationary is not included.

| Nothing at all to be ashamed of. I didn't think it postworthy, but in '94 I did
about 500. My first year, on a bike I delivered papers on when I was 15... I
enjoyed it enough to get a newer bike, and have never looked back. Maybe I'll
get another new bike this fall...
Set yourself a goal, and go for it. If your goal is 1000 miles and you hit
1241, then you did great! I beat my goal by 170 miles. For a while, 5K looked
unattainable, until I did 700 miles in October and another 500+ in November. I
got 100 in December and already 75 this January. The lack of snow has been
nice, but it has either been warm and rainy or cold and windy... If I can get 1
day in Feb (surely I can do this), I'll have ridden in 24 consecutive months.
One thing that hurt me last year was the lack of 50-100 mile rides. I need to
do more of these. As things look now, I will have time to do 50+ mile rides on
the weekend, except when there is a race on Sunday.
Riding with a group helps tremendously. Have you ever tried this? What
facility do you work in (Linda & Barb)? Anyone is always invited to come with
us at lunch (ZKO). Some days we go nice and easy, other days we hammer. Take
your pick. There are other groups around here too that ride less ambitiously.
6K or bust (1.25% of the way there!)

3174.18 | Belated mileage chart - already 5 weeks into 1997!! | ULYSSE::virenq.vbo.dec.com::HEMMINGS | Lanterne Rouge | Mon Feb 03 1997 02:51 | 9 |
| I couldn't find a "mileage chart" note, maybe it's in CYCLE_RACING ...
Anyone who wants an ExCel spreadsheet can find one in on my public account on
Ulysse - ULYSSE::NPBU1:[HEMMINGS.PUBLIC]MILE.XLS. It contains my records but
they can be easily deleted - there is a macro for building the histograms and
maybe even a readme file (I forget), the vertical axis is self-adjusting at
the start if you feel 700 whatevers is too much or too few for you - just
change the topmost value. The C versions of the sheet are in colour for the
techno-weenies, and remember it's European so it expects A4.
