| Oh. it's special alright... At least the century ride is.
It basically winds up into the hill areas of southern New Hampshire.
Don't quote me on this, but this route is close...
Starts at Doyle Field, Leominster.
- Go to Rte 119 (probably via Rte 31)
- Get on Rte 202 in Rindge, NH
- Pick up Rte 124 to Rte 101 (maybe in the Marlborough, NH area)
- Stay on Rte 101 into Peterborough, NH ande climb up Temple Mt.
- Stay on Rte 101 until you come to Rte 13 (Milford?)
- Back on Rte 13 (Leominster)
I'm thinking about doing this ride. Unfortunately, it is the same
day as the COVAC century out in Hadley. Some guys are going to that
for a sub-5 hour ride.

The only change to what Cip said is that from 13 you pick up 119 west
to rt 31 back to Fitchburg and then back to Leominster.

I knew as soon as I looked it the note that you'd pick up in the
missing "h"... :-)

| -1 I can live with a missing "h" a lot easier than
certain other critical things :-).

3140.6 | Need to change gearing! | ICS::BJOHNSON | | Thu Aug 29 1996 12:41 | 7 |
| Up Pack Monadnock? I would think they would have mentioned that.
I don't think the standard gearing that most people run would get
up that. I'm glad I asked.
Thanks for the info!

3140.8 | Have done this course | SUBSYS::SCHNARE | CHARLIE SCHNARE | Fri Aug 30 1996 11:50 | 14 |
| About 7 of us did this course a few weeks back with Darron the ride leader
from the Fitchburg cycle club. Very scenic course, you'll really like it.
However there are a few hill.
Hills start on Route 31N get serious where 31 and 119 come together
to Ashby center. Couple of short ones on the way to 202. The some good
ones along 123. Very long climbs on 101 to Dublin N. H. then into
Peterbourgh. The last big climb at about mi 80, will be Temple Mt. By this
time I had to use my smallest gear. Having a 23 back there would not
be a bad idea.
We DO NOT go up Pack M.

3140.9 | What is Temple Maountain? | ICS::BJOHNSON | | Fri Aug 30 1996 12:39 | 6 |
| Thanks for the clarification. But now I am wondering, what is
temple mountain? Is it just the long hill heading east on 101
out of Peterbourough? That insn't all that bad. Anyway, thanks
again for the info.

3140.10 | | SOLVIT::ALLEN_R | on the point | Fri Aug 30 1996 23:06 | 7 |
| Yes it is and yes you are right, not all that bad. From Twin Mtn to
the Cog Rail base would be fun or Bear Notch or going west on 302
through Crawford Notch. Or for real fun one can do the loop starting at
Lincoln, go over the Kancamagus, through Conway to Crawford, Bretton
Woods, and back down Rt 3 to Lincoln utilizing the bike path through
Franconia Notch. Now that would be a fun ride. It may not be a
century, but it would get one in shape for a good ride.

3140.11 | start time, etc? | MPGS::MILLS | | Wed Sep 04 1996 15:36 | 4 |
| Can anyone ride this? If so, what is the starting time and can you be
more exact about the starting point?
Thanks, Jim

3140.12 | anyone with $25 | ICS::BJOHNSON | | Wed Sep 04 1996 16:37 | 6 |
| It's open to anyone with $25. It will start from Doyle Field in
Leominster. I believe the 100 goes at 7:15 and the 50 goes at 8:00.
I'm not positive on these times. I'll try to remember to check and
post it here tomorrow. From route 2 east or west, take route 13
south towards Leominster. Priest St forks to the right about .25
mi from route 2. Doyle field is about .5 mi down Priest St.

3140.14 | A Question on registration vs. fund raising | PCBUOA::aki1005.ako.dec.com::rehberg | | Fri Sep 06 1996 09:45 | 11 |
| I got a flyer about this ride and it said it was a fund raiser for the
special olympics. It also discussed a registration fee before 8/31 of $25
or a collection of $50 in donations. Either of these would have gotten you
a free t-shirt.
What I am confused about is can you still register at 6:45 for $25 and not
get the free t-shirt? Is there a fund raising minimum?
Thanks,
Rick
