| I've been working on this project with people from Stow, Hudson, Marlborough,
Acton, and Maynard for two years now. Currently Kathy Buckley Lewis and her
folks from the Central Transportation Planning S(???) (CTPS) are doing feasibil-
ity study with help from a bunch of volunteers and the 5 towns. We have a
meeting April 24 at the Maynard Town Hall.
The section where the original railroad bridge across the Assabet (Stow) is no
longer there is an optional route; we can in fact avoid TWO crossings of the
river ((both bridges are gone, but pilings are intact below water level) by
detouring on existing roadways through Gleasondale section of Stow, turning onto
Sudbury Rd (past Honeypot Hill orchards), then onto Boone Rd which brings you
to the long straight stretch of trail going north to Maynard.
Give me a call if you want to know more about it, or want to look at the cool
informational brochure.

Subj: Assabet River Rail Trail Meeting
ARRT PUBLIC MEETING JULY 24 IN HUDSON
There will be a public meeting to discuss the proposed Assabet River Rail Trail
on Wednesday, July 24 from 7-9 pm at the Unitarian Church on Main Street (MA 62)
in Hudson. Cathy Buckley-Lewis of the Central Transportation Planning Staff
will present an update on the ongoing feasibility study, and there will be
a slide show about the trail. Most of the last hour will be devoted to
questions, answers, and community input.
[I'd be there if I weren't going on vacation for a week. -Doug Mink]

Subj: Assabet River Rail Trail-Acton support needed!
Support is being gathered to submit a grant application to partially fund
construction of the Assabet River Rail Trail (see message from Tom Keane below).
A strong show of support in Acton (my town) is particularly crucial. The
AART committee is meeting with the Acton Board of Selectmen on Tuesday, 7:30
in room 204 of the Acton town hall. The BOS will be asked by AART to
actually commit money at this time. There is an opposition group of
abutters. Acton residents in favor of this project are strongly urged to attend.
In addition, letters of support for the grant application have been
requested by Tom Keane:

There has been some confusion about to whom the letters should be sent.
Michelle Ciccolo of the Hudson Selectman's Office asks that letters be
_addressed_ to the attention of Elizabeth Newman, but actually _mailed_ to
her at the following address:
Michelle Ciccolo
Selectman's Office, Town of Hudson
78 Main Street
Hudson, MA 01749
The letters will be bundled together with the grant application to be
submitted late in February; it is feared that letters received directly by
Ms. Newman before then may get lost and not filed properly to support the
grant application.
