| So what's the need for a separate conference on mountain biking?
There are many facets to cycling, does that mean we should
define each one and create a separate conference?
Cycling is cycling, the geometries change, the components
change, life goes on.
Ride for the sake of riding, stop worrying about which
conference to place a question in...

3016.5 | More than the sum of its parts | ENQUE::MCGOWAN | | Wed Mar 13 1996 08:54 | 10 |

There is a need for a seperate conference focused on off-road riding
because I feel that Mountain Bikers have a culture and a sense of
shared experience different from that of other cyclists in general.
Mountainbiking notes which appear in the Bike conference become diluted
to the point of meaninglessness. I understand the passion for other
cycling forms, but the MTB Conference will stay pavement free, thanks.

3016.6 | Combined is fine! How do I add a MTB conference? | PCBUOA::aki1005.ako.dec.com::rehberg | | Wed Mar 13 1996 11:42 | 23 |
| As a multi sport person I browse the Bicycle, the cycle_racing, the
running_club, the XC Skiing, and the triathlon conferences. I ride
recreationally both road and mountain bikes (as do many of the
people who read and contribute to this conference.)
This is my favorite conference because it is very active and it has
a lot of diversity and I read it more frequently than the others.
Having all mountain bike topics isolated to another conference means
that I will not see those topics as frequently. I think I can
appreciate the concern and desires of those who only ride/talk/"want
to read about" mountain biking with regard to not having to sort
through and skip a lot of extraneous topics. However, I for one
welcome, appreciate and value this conference being free to include
the diversity of all general riding topics. If some mountain bike
related material is here and some is in a separate conference, then
I will add the other conference and read it sometimes.
I do not currently get the mountain bike confreence. What do I need
to do to add this?
Thanks,
Rick

NO need for a new conference! (IMO) So many topics are relevant
to both fat-tire and road riding...... maybe this conference just
needs a fresh perspective as moderator

| Disgree, so many topics are not relevant to road bikes (it's not even
funny). Fit, form, function, equipment, techniques are all vast
departures from the road world (and I'm primarily a road dweller.
Even area rides info provide a great deal of value.
Besides, whose nose is losing the skin on this anyway?

The MTB Conference will have a new location and moderator next
Wednesday, JC Ferguson (see "Introductions" Reply 24) will be
taking care of things. The new location of the MTB Conference
will be QUINCE::MTB so you'll need to change your entry for
the MTB Conference on your notes viewer. I'll miss it, and
hope it continues to be an excellent source of information for
those Mountainbikers across the globe who happen to work for
Digital.
