I came across a unique (to me) looking MTB while in Michigan last week.
It is a Slingshot. The down tube is replaced by a stainless braided
wire terminated at the bottom bracket with a swage fitting and a spring
assembly near the headset. There is also a flat carbon fiber insert
which is reportedly part of a Corvette leaf spring as part of the top
tube near the seat tube. Supposedly this allows the bike to act as a
suspension bike of sorts. Strange looking but I rode one with a Rock
Shox Judy around the parking lot (and into the weeds/field next to the
mall :-) ) and it rode well. It rode pretty nicely but at 1,700 +/- with
LX and the Judy I would expect as much. Apparently they also make a
folding model for about $200 more. A non shoccked fork with XT went
for $1,600 +/-. All of the tubes are CroMo. Anyone else out there seen
or ridden one?
