3002.0. "Mtn bike race at Newfound Lake - Aug 20" by SUBSYS::DCARR (I'd rather be at Newfound Lake) Mon Aug 07 1995 09:50
Thought I'd post this for those mountain bikers looking for races.
(Paraphrased from "The Record Entreprise", a local newspaper that serves
the Newfound Lake region).
13th Annual White Mountain Championship Race
Bristol, NH
Sunday, Aug 20.
"$2200 in cash and prizes awarded to the top 10 finishers in racing
classes. Trek, Specialized and other manufacturers are donating equipment.
Racers start at the Bristol Middle School, near downtown Bristol. Following
the mandatory pre-race meeting all entrants will proceed to the race
course. A scenic point to point course, it winds for 22 miles along old
town dirt roads and snowmobile trails before returning to the start-finish
line.
At the end of the race entrants will gather back at the Middle School
for a bag lunch, swap race stories and be entertained by a live blue grass
band while awaiting race results. Showers are available at the school.
Hosts for the event are The Greasey Wheel Bike Shop and The Newfound
Region Chamber of Commerce.
Registration fee: $20. Late fee after Aug 19 is $5. Tee shirts given to
the first 150 registered entrants.
Race day registration is 9-10:30 am in the Middle School lot followed by
the 10:30 am mandatory racers meeting. Race is scheduled for an 11 am
start.
To receive an entry form write the NRC of C Events, Post Office Box 6,
Bristol, NH 03222 or call 744-2150."
Bristol, NH borders Newfound Lake, and can be reached by taking Exit 23
(Rte 104) off Rte 93. Take a left at the end of the exit, Rte 104 heads
into Bristol. Note that Aug 20 is also a day of auto racing at New
Hampshire International Speedway at Loudon, so traffic will likely be
heavy on 93.
