I am looking for suggestions /experiences with putting a bike rack on the newer style honda prelude (1992). By friend is looking for one and looked into thule. The footnote for the rack said skis only because the sheet metal on the roof wasn't strong enough to hold bikes... He wants to be able to carry 2 bikes. Has anyone done this. Dennis

I don't recall ever setting one up on a newer style Prelude, but I would think it also depends on the bike you are planning to carry (20 lbs racing bike verse 26 lbs Mt bike). I would also look at the carriers that remove the front wheel to reduce weight or maybe just take a chance on carrying one bike. Other option is the look at the Rhode Gear Euro Shuttle that mounts on the trunk and is a fork mounted rack and the Yakama Roof Rack system. Dave | |||||

I also vote for a trunk mount style rack. Go for a good quality one around $100. Stay away from the Allen el chip $40 mounts. With the roof racks, not only its a chore lifting bikes up, there is always more possiblity of scratching your new car on the way up or hurting your back. We have a trunk rack and we carry two most of the time but can fit three mountain bikes on it. We use it both on my little sports car and my girlfriends van with no problem within a few minutes.
